Caught my baby playing with the tv remote control will the infrared be safe for their eyes?

Worried as today I caught my baby playing with the tv remote, I know this is quite a common thing for babies to get their hands on but I’m worried that the infrared signal may have shone in his eyes and damaged him in some way, does anyone else have similar worries or am
i massively overreacting ( as per usual) 😂

OP posts:

You are over reacting.

LampsAndWatches · 02/06/2023 23:30

That’s an over reaction

ItsBritneyBitchhhh · 02/06/2023 23:31

-_-

SixKeys · 02/06/2023 23:33

I seriously worry when I read posts like this. It's a TV remote. Your child will be fine.

usernother · 02/06/2023 23:34

Possibly the most massive overreaction I've ever heard OP Smile

Fordian · 02/06/2023 23:36

I call BS.

Wouldn't be surprised. I struggle to believe anyone would genuinely worry about this. If this is real OP needs help.

I find it fascinating that something like this would even occur to someone to be something to worry about.
It’s an overreaction.
Baby will be fine.
I do also wonder how some people think any babies have survived throughout history.

I have a friend who worries about stuff like this and she is constantly in a&e or at the GP for bizarre or minor concerns. I worry for her child but am distancing myself.

There is a huge shiny yellow thing that's sits fairly high up in the sky that is far more damaging than the miniscule amount of UV light emitted from a TV remote...

Hugasauras · 02/06/2023 23:45

If this kind of anxiety/reaction is a common occurrence, as your post seems to suggest, have you considered it might be postnatal anxiety? Have you got any help from HV etc?

PerfectYear321 · 02/06/2023 23:50

It's a bit odd to say you 'caught' your baby playing with it. Were you not supervising him?

Millions and millions of babies didn’t survive through history. If yours is the one that doesn’t then it doesn’t really matter about the others.

Not that I think the TV remote is a worry. Anxiety is a horrible thing. You’ll start to feel a bit better as your baby gets older but don’t worry about this particular thing anymore.

At the risk of triggering, I can't help noting there is a great big yellow 'infra-red emitter' in the sky. As well as all the light bulbs in the average house. And all the people in the world too (Oooo scary!) Everything whose temperature is above absolute zero emits infra-red.

I now see you beat me to the sun thing.

CharlottenBurger · 03/06/2023 00:17

TV remotes don't emit ultra-violet light.

pookiedoodlepuppy · 03/06/2023 00:20

Haven't read the rest of replies but thanks for the laugh , just wait this is least dangerous thing they'll do 🤣

I have no idea why I said UV (you'd never know I studied physics for years 😅). Probably because I was talking about the sun!

UV and infrared radiation are at the opposite ends of the spectrum from each other. Infrared is much lower energy than UV.

RosesAndHellebores · 03/06/2023 00:25

My DS survived chucking the remote down the loo at about that age. I quickly forgave him and dh spent three months saying "did you put new batteries in this thing, it's very sluggish".

I know. I don't know why I said UV. (typing fast and talking about the sun). My point was that the sun's rays pose more danger than the infrared in a remote control yet I doubt the OP worries about her child being outdoors in the day.

GameChanger54321 · 03/06/2023 00:26

He'll be fine ☺️ x

Sorry, but not in my experience! Instead of worrying about the remote control, next it’ll be ‘will they be emotionally damaged by never being picked for a speaking part?’, graduating to ‘where the hell are they?’ at 3 o’clock in the morning.

Mumma2Ro · 03/06/2023 09:51

ohhh nothing to worry about at all!! He will be fine. A lot worse to come unfortunately lol

TheVolturi · 03/06/2023 10:01

Remote controls have long been a standard baby shutter upper. Along with a bunch of keys and mobile phone.
Don't panic!
