Any dentist/orthodontists around please?

My DD 10 had a check up today, she has been referred to an orthodontist due to "no space upper right 3" her canine can't come through, apparently the wait is 1-2 years though?! Should we consider private? Is there a reason the dentist can't do it? She mentioned molar extraction to make room. Any advice gratefully received.

They need to wait until all her adult teeth are through, and it is best to start treatment when she is going through a growth spurt
I'd say age 12/13 plus is about accurate.
Possibly too young still

Very early to think no space at age 10. Jaws are still growing

She needs an orthodontist consultation as simply taking another tooth out won't usually result in the canine coming through straight. Often a tooth is taken out and then braces used to line everything up.
She may be crowded in other areas and it's normal to balance an extraction to get symmetry as a midline shift can look odd.
Some ten year olds are ready for braces but most are still waiting for other adult teeth and it's difficult to anticipate the size of unerupted teeth so to me she's being referred at the right time so the orthodontist will be able to see clearly what the options for treatment are by the time she is seen.
You can obviously get seen privately much quicker and they will be able to judge if she is eligible for treatment under the NHS but they are probably going to want to wait for the adult teeth unless they are gaining space by arch expansion initially,

Thanks so much, I feel reassured, all her adult upper teeth are through, just one partially erupted lower, sounds like waiting is the right thing to do.
