Is 4.6 after eating a good blood sugar reading for a child?

I had an emergency appt today as my son as had a few symptoms of diabetes. Anyway she asked if he had eaten just before she did the finger prick test, which he had a bottle of milk 40 mins before the appt ( I didn’t know he was suppose to fast before). She said it should still show a diabetic reading (if he’s diabetic), even though he had recently had the bottle and was happy with the reading it showed. I’m just worried it’s a false reading as he had the bottle.

am I overthinking it?

If he was diabetic the reading would be high as diabetics cannot lower their blood sugar without medication. A reading of 4.6 is fine

For an adult 4.6 is a good (normal, non-diabetic) morning fasted reading, I’m not a HCP but I’d say it’s a good reading for a child too.

I hope you get good news soon, OP.

My daughter is Type1 diabetic.
That reading is perfectly normal and in range for a child. Anything over 7 would be on the higher end but still normal.

Anything above 11 would be a worry and immediate concern, which if your child has any form of carbs would be the case if they were diabetic.

@HJB2021 diabetics have high blood sugars. The only reason they get 'hypos' is because the insulin they take isn't always perfectly matched to the amount of carbs they've had.
