Extra Sensitive Suncream

WaterBaby9 · 27/05/2023 20:02

Heyy,

Does anyone have any reommendations for a hypoallergenic/organic / natural suncream?

My son is not a sensitive skin child at all but for some reason is always affected by a rash with normal suncream.

I have obviously looked online but always like to look into recommended products to narrow it down a bit.

The only one that works for my DD with eczema is the aldi baby one

johsq20 · 27/05/2023 20:06

I found that child's farm etc didn't work with my DD. The Superdrug own brand one worked fine for her.

Brbreeze · 27/05/2023 20:06

Unfortunately the only one we have found that my toddler doesn't react to is La Roche Posay - expensive taste 😕

blahblahblah1654 · 27/05/2023 20:07

Just wondering if any of these are non oily too?

TheReverendBeeb · 27/05/2023 20:09

Hi OP. Both my DC have eczema and the only one that they tolerate is Green People. Again v expensive but better than red and itchy skin.

Alr91 · 27/05/2023 20:11

My son has excema and I found that la Roche posay worked for him too but as previous poster said its quite expensive. I've also tried the boots soltan kids sensitive and sun allergy protect and it works just as good at £6 a bottle

Atticus999 · 27/05/2023 20:11

Ultrasun extreme .
my daughter has eczema and extremely sensitive skin and this is fine, even on her face.

whatsinanameeh · 27/05/2023 20:15

My son is allergic to almost all sun creams, we use eucarin sun allergy protect

It's pricey but doesn't provoke a rash and we put it a solar buddy to apply it evenly and avoid waste

greenacrylicpaint · 27/05/2023 20:16

I and one of the dc have eczema and react badly to the sensitive types plus they tend to be greasy and are a nightmare on the beach.
.
tbh recommending a certain brand is useless as brands chane formulations all the time.

WaterBaby9 · 27/05/2023 20:19

I really dont know what provokes the rash. Def not ecezma and no other reactions in general life.. Its always ok at first but after a few days of multiple applications he gets a raised, red rash and i end up having to visit pharmacies abroad, luckily he's olive skin so doesnt burn easily but I still need protection on him!

Thanks so much, will look up all these recommendations, really helpful.

My son and I both have the same reaction to most sun creams. Got lucky last holiday with Piz Buin, could be worth a try for you?

So glad it's not just him! All the 'on the shelf' ones, ive tried. Nivea was the absolute worst. I think I need a secret expensive one that i dont know about yet! X

Have a look at mineral sun creams.

JosieOhNo · 27/05/2023 22:09

Also, after sun... not sure if you use that on him, but I've so far never found a single one that my skin can tolerate and instead I have to just use trusted moisturisers.

(I'm guessing it won't be a problem for your son, but also anything like gradual tan developers, like holiday skin, dove etc. There must be a common ingredient in these that my skin doesn't like)

I try to be as natural as possible with products so I use E45 or coconut oil as an aftersun and general moisturisers on us but the reaction he gets with suncream, im scared to try anything new!

Have you tried dropping the factor? Factor 50 is so thick, factor 30 is much kinder to skin. Just make sure to reapply.

TheUsualChaos · 27/05/2023 22:27

We have this problem with my youngest. Last year he reacted to Soltan kids but was fine with a cheap supermarket suncream factor 30, just reapply a bit more often. Tbh the factor 50 ones that claim they give 8 hours I find misleading as in reality children rub/wash it off well before that time and you really have to apply just as often as normal suncream to be effective. I've read that the factor 50 can be more likely to cause a reaction and that using 30 can give just as much protection so long as applying throughout the day.

This year I've tried child's farm suncream on him which initially he was ok with but after a few days use he is getting the rash on his face. Again I'm wondering if the factor 50 is part of the issue.

A pharmacist also said to me part of the problem is we've gone from bad weather and not needing suncreams to suddenly needing it every day in strong sun and the skin hasn't had a chance to get used to it.

meringue33 · 27/05/2023 22:36

Ultrasun. It’s amazing. It is expensive but it goes a long way so ok value overall. Waterproof and lasts 12 hours.

Bovrilla · 27/05/2023 22:39

Green People one for kids is superb.
I also like the ultrasun mineral one.

Chemical sunscreens are a sod to sensitive skins, stick with mineral ones. Better for skin and the environment too

MenoRageisReal · 27/05/2023 23:06

Tropic Skin Shade - totally mineral, was brilliant for my kid. No irritation at all, no nasty ingredients.

randomsabreuse · 27/05/2023 23:17

I agree about dropping below factor 50. My ginger DC comes up in a blotchy rash with many sunscreens. So we use hats/clothes to cover as much as possible.

I've also found P20 and similar once a day types (clear when going on) seem to cause less reaction.

It's really good, isn't it? Dh is a sensitive soul and everything makes his eyes water but this doesn't.

WaterBaby9 · 27/05/2023 23:21

So many helpful suggestions, thank you all.

He is very olive skinned and now he's 11 we've always used 30 or below so its not the factor 50 issue a few people have suggested, def an ingredient in the 'on the shelf' suncreams.

Thank you all
X

This is gorgeous stuff. Light and moisturising and my little boy with severe eczema tolerates it perfectly so far touch wood. His dermatologist recommended it. Pricey but worth it and a little goes a long way x
