Psoriasis or eczema ?

My baby was born and right away had really dry patches on his ankles, now he’s 4 months the last month or so had lots of dry patches and sore red marks on his folds of the ankles. The last couple weeks it now seems to be one big patch of skin. Our GP is certain it’s eczema and tells us to try different emollient he prescribes but the last couple of weeks has gone from a small rash to quite big. My friend is convinced it is Psoriasis and not eczema. He has the exact same on the other foot in the exact same place. He also has a small patch on the other leg as seen in the pic.

any advice is appreciated

It's not psoriatic. My child has psoriasis and it has a crust. when the crust comes of it's a deep crimson and shiney. This looks like a sweat friction rash.

keep the area clean and dry and use emoliants as prescribed. Alternatively put sudocream on it overnight to help the irritation heal.

I would say eczema for sure, it's definitely not psoriasis. Mild steroid cream should clear it up

Yeah I have psoriasis and this doesn’t look like it. Looks very similar to my 2 kids and husband who have eczema.

And I second sudocream, it works on my DC if I do a thick layer overnight for a few days.

Have you ever used steroids?

Eczema without a doubt, doc will probably suggest hydrocortisone cream.

Battled eczema with dd since she was about 3 months old (no surprises as I have had it all my life), best thing that's worked for us is a) the Dr Aron regimen (but that is pricey and also probably not needed at this stage for you!) b) baths with just plain water or oats for a flare up. Moogoo shampoo and conditioner and the unscented child's farm moisturiser.

However, the absolutely delightful thing about eczema is what works for one, won't work for another. Likewise with triggers. It's a total bastard but as long as it's kept controlled it is ok.

Thank you all for the replies , he also had a patch similar on his chest which cleared up with the prescription. The ankles seem to go better then all of a sudden look really dry again. He was first prescribed Cetraben and then Oilatum light liquid paraffin - his face used to flare up with patches of dry skin and I realised the aveeno with oats for sensitive skin was causing the flare ups and haven’t had any since. He uses child farm un fragranced body wash but will try the moisturiser too! Thanks again

I'm just remembering the is a product in Tesco called "Child's farm" This is a range of child/baby friendly skin products. Many mums swear by them.
