Coughing and Vomiting

Looking for some advice and if anyone has had similar experiences..
DD (3) had a nasty cough that started around 3 weeks ago, took her to gp who diagnosed croup and gave her the steroid tablet..
Her croup sounding cough disappeared but she is left with a lingering dry cough.. which in turn causes her to vomit nearly daily..
Took her back to gp who has given her an inhaler and different hayfever medication..
my DP doesn't think it's asthma he's worrying something else is going on.. gp wants to see her in another 4 weeks for a check up but the vomiting each day is what I'm worried about as I'm worried about her losing weight
Anyone had similar experiences?

You say daily but is she vomiting every time she coughs, if so, how many times a day is that? If it's once a day she's vomiting, it may just be a particularly bad heave from the cough so if it's not a huge amount of sick, I wouldn't worry about weight loss in itself.

Me and my youngest currently have a cough we've had for 5 weeks, it's getting better but we are still having less frequent coughing episodes. The youngest is sick from coughing every other day in average but I think it's more to do with more sensitive gag reflexes when they're younger.

If see how it is in a week or two if it's not much sick. The viral infections going around have been a bit more resilient than before and our immune systems have not been exposed to them all properly for some time.

However, you're her parents and if you're worried in general, then get a second opinion. You're her advocate, don't hesitate if you're concerned to ask for another GP's opinion.

My DD (4) was like this over Christmas. She’d had a cough for nearly 3 months and was vomiting daily from the coughing for a good few weeks. Antibiotics hadn’t helped and she was eventually prescribed an inhaler. They didn’t give us much guidance with the inhaler so gave her two puffs when she first got up, two before bed and then if she had a particularly bad coughing fit or sounded rattly. I was sceptical but within a couple of weeks the cough had gone. We don’t know if she has asthma, but the inhaler definitely worked.

Thanks both will definately keep up with the inhaler and then if no change will phone gp again next week...

Good luck - I hope it works. I remember spending weeks wondering if I should be going back to the doctor but the coughing and vomiting was the only symptom - she was otherwise well.

Night times were always the worst - when she was unwell at Christmas she could have coughing fits that lasted over an hour. Previously I’d tried calpol as that seemed to settle things a bit but getting it into her when she was half asleep was hard and she’d often get worked up, cough more and vomit it up anyway. With the inhaler (using the spacer and mask), I could give it to her while she was sleeping which was a complete game changer overnight.
