Bronchiolitis in 2 week old

Hi,

My LO is turning 2 weeks tomorrow and on Tuesday we were at A&E with him due to us noticing he was breathing a lot heavier than normal. We were there 3 hours max and he was diagnosed with Bronchiolitis. However at the time his oxygen levels were absolutely fine and because he is still taking his feeds normally and having regular wet nappies, the consultant was happy for us to go home but told us to come back at any time if he got worse (which he hasn’t). Since then I’ve been looking into it and it seems that majority of newborns who get this will eventually be hospitalised, or at least that is all I have seen from other peoples experiences? I’m wondering if anyone has had experience with their LO and bronchiolitis at such a young age that didn’t end up in a stay in the hospital? He is my first and I am just really anxious that he’s going to deteriorate at some point because that is all I have read from other peoples experiences with this? Any replies and reassurance would be much appreciated!

My son is 16 days old he has got bronchiolitis we went to the hospital and his oxygen levels were low he had to stay in one night then was fine to come home as he was breathing fine without oxygen and his heart rate was back to normal we got home lastnight and I’ve stayed awake all night and all today just monitoring him and he’s been fine but I’ve just got a few questions like will his breathing be a bit fast from time to time? And will he still suck in a little bit when breathing too? How long did the symptoms last for other babies? And should I keep him isolated for the next week?

@Hannahhartleyx

My 3 week old had an 8 days stay so slightly different as he was remarkable better by the time we were let home but his breathing was still unusual when we were home . It didn't get faster but he would have long pauses in breathing , if your baby is still tummy breathing or tugging at the neck then I would take him back to a and e . If your not sure what exactly your looking for have a look on YouTube or TikTok at some videos .
With such young babies I would always rather be more cautious - if in doubt phone 111.

The nurses told me with bronc that it normally peaks on day 3/4 and then should get better .

Reassurance post...
My ds had it off /on for 10 months after catching whooping cough on the post natal ward..Dr's weren't sure of his long term lung health.
At 18 he passed his physical army training with flying colours.. He served 4 years. Luckily he got back from abroad last year before any trouble started...

Oh that's great to hear , after my babies 8 day stay with it he's had an on and off cough constantly .
Nice to know it won't necessarily have long term damage

Thankyou I took him to get checked and he was breathing a little fast due to too much milk so reduced his feed
