Warts and skin tags

My DD has several warts all over her hands. At least 20. They are also now appearing all over the face, near her eyes, around mouth. Up and around nose. Every week there seem to be more. She's seen a GP who wasn't concerned and said they will just disappear in time. I'm just worried there is some underlying issue that is being missed. Has anyone got any experience with this?

I've asked for a paediatric referral but surely this can't be normal.

Is it molluscum contagiosum?

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 02/05/2023 20:16

Can you upload a picture of the ones on her hands?

Hopefully this works

It's not molluscum x

My daughter was covered in warts on her hands and molluscum on her face and body at the same time.

The Gp froze the warts and most of the mol went.

I would go and see another GP at your practice.

Thank you, I will go back to the GP. I'm mostly worried about them all popping up on her face.

I was and my dd got to the point where she was conscious of them.

She had one on her face near her lip which grew into a stalk. This had to be removed under general as they were concerned that it didn’t present like the others had.

It was just a mol that had decided to grow outwards. Very strange thing.

My DD has one just like you describe under her nose

@kenadams86 My daughter had these. Hands and face/around mouth. Flat warts. Unfortunately took a couple of years and then just disappeared after a holiday to Turkey - I'm assuming the chlorine in the pool, or the salty sea and sun helped? The dermatologist didn't treat as risk of scarring on young skin.

We have just had this issue. Ds was very self conscious, referred to dermatology that took over a year.

In the meantime I was told to use silver nitrate as I had used every other otc treatment. It takes a while and turns them black, they look like ink marks. They suddenly started going just in time for his dermatology appointment!

Dermatologist said it is very common for children but you have to be treating them everyday for at least 3 months. She said if you concentrate on 3 or 4 of the biggest ones then when the treatment starts to work, the immune system sort of wakes up and the rest all disappear as well.

They may be spreading as children pick and scratch them and spread them around, I was told to be vigilant with hand washing after touching them and file every day for 3 months and treat.

Its such a long slog and miserable for the children, the dermatologist said they don’t always like freezing them off now as they usually come back and it’s painful, it’s much better to get their immune system to recognise and get rid of them.

I hope they clear up soon

How is your dd? Does she have skin tags too?
