Adenoid Removal Battle?

Hi. I've got my little girls ent appointment on Friday and lots and lots of issues that I think are related to enlarged adenoids. If they are enlarged how reluctant or encouraging are doctors to take them out. She has constant blocked sinus for nearly 6 months, wakes multiple times every night since September, chokes on mucas every night, affecting her eating and emotional state. Often saying she is fatigued now. Sounds very nasally when she talks.

If all the signs are there and they are enlarged do doctors just whip them out or do they try and come up with other solutions first. I don't want to put her thru anything invasive but it's really starting to be affecting her day and nights, and in my opinion her development and long term I'm concerned this will get worse.

Also anyone got a recent appointment to operation time frame?

If they’re causing issues they remove them, fairly simple in my experience. Our dc had it done 4 years ago so not recently but surgery was booked for about 6 weeks after it was established that antibiotics weren’t helping.

@Garman I know covid might have expanded those wait times. 6 weeks sounds great! I just feel in my heart this is the cause of her issues and in just general then whole house is suffering due to her 4+ walings a night screaming and crying. Just have a feeling a battle either to get it done or to not bother with sleep study for the reason of she would absolutely not wear the wires so would be pointless.

Does she have sleep apnea? Also what about her tonsils? Are they enlarged?

Sleeplessmamma · 01/05/2023 15:47

@RiverRock22 I'm not sure about the sleep apnea as we don't sleep in room with her but I know the amount of mucas is so bad she chokes on it every night which wakes her and makes her hysterical. Think her tonsils are OK, it's her adenoids that I think are the issue. We have 3-4 even 5 wakes up a night crying and coughing cos of mucas, permenant dark circles under her eyes, recurring sinus infections that require antibiotics, not gained any weight for months, starting to stay she's tired all the time. Wants me to feed her and dress her now and very very emotional started wetting thru night when shes been dry fir a while. Lots of things but possibly without the sleep apnea, so hoping they will check, see her quality of life is not what it should be right now.

Both mine had a sleep apnoea test before they took both tonsils and adenoids out. All it is is monitoring their oxygen sats at home overnight with a probe on their toe. Both of mine were dropping into mid 70s whilst sleeping and coupled with their snoring and other issues, both had tonsils and adenoids out very quickly. (Both aged 2). Hope you get sorted.
