DT2 has a ENT consultation at the end of May. I’m hoping they’ll agree to remove. No recurrent tonsillitis but they are so big they are affecting her sleep & breathing.

has anyone else had tonsils this big and not had them removed?

It’s not really based on the size of the tonsils, big tonsils are quite normal for young children. Better to very clearly state the impact the tonsils (and likely also Adenoids) are having on her day to day life. Is she excessively sleepy? Mouth breathing? Snoring? Ear problems? Blocked nose? Nasal sounding voice? Chapped lips and bad breath (from mouth breathing)? Etc.

If sleep effected they’ll likely look at the Epworth Sleepiness score, as well as the breathing issues you note DC to be having and make a decision from there. If your child snores at night or mouth breathes then try to get a couple of videos of that to show ENT.

Big tonsils alone or neither here nor there, they’re a normal finding in paediatrics, focus on the impairments that they’re causing.

My daughter had hers removed as they were large.
She's never had tonsillitis but they chose to remove them as she was having her adenoids removed and grommets putting in because of ear infections.
