Inguinal hernia

Evening all,

9yr old DS had an ultrasound today, radiologist confirmed inguinal hernia (we noticed a bulge and he’s had pain for a while)… slightly complicated because the bowel is apparently slipping in and out intermittently too. However, not super urgent.

Does anyone have experience of what happens next? She said paediatric surgeons will review. I can’t imagine they’d leave it untreated?

Any experience/tips for what to expect next much appreciated.

TIA

I had two inguinal and one umbilical at the same time as a 9 year old. Had Surgery with dissolving stitches. Uncomfortable for a bit. No sport or horseplay for 2 months. No lasting effects

This was 30 years ago so could be even more straightforward now

Both my boys had inguinal hernias when they were younger and had operations to fix them. It's really quick day surgery and no healing time to speak of (other than avoiding PE for a while).
I'm sure I read that the hernias don't fix themselves in that area, so "watch n wait" is pretty pointless as it'll either stay the same, or if unlucky, get worse.
