Child itchy/knicker problem

Anybody have some advice for sensitive skin or recommendations. My child suffers from eczema so changing to 'surcare' wahing powder has helped with all other areas of the body as well as using hydromol in the bath. But she has persistent eczema type rash on her knicker line and itchy vulva. Dr prescribed Canesten which helps whilst using but issue never really goes away and is only meant to be for 7days. I am convinced it is a reaction to the washing powder but at a loss of what else to try. Have tried persil non bio liquid and ecover liquid fragrance free both in small amounts. Now on surcare which like I say helps everywhere but the vagina area. Short of having single use knickers or washing knickers in the sink with no soap I don't know what else to try.

Thanks for reading.

Ok I have taken all on board and will also start rinsing with the shower head after her bath. I only wash her hair a couple of times a week, but yes it is in the bath so she could react to the shampoo also. (We are using the vosene kids lice repellent at the minute as there was an outbreak in her pre school). I will nip to the pharmacy today and see if they have any recommendations for a cream...if not back to the GP!

Thanks so much everyone

Also just to add, I have ordered shorts style knickers from next which state the gusset is 100% cotton. But will try bamboo if these don't work

To add to the good advice given already

Laundry settings

  1. Surcare
  2. No fabric softener
  3. Extra rinse
  4. Hot cotton wash 60 degrees or more

I used to run a hot towel wash before a dedicated knicker wash, to make sure the machine was well cleared of fabric softener/detergent/bacteria build up. Hot towel wash is 90, detergent only.

That is to say, wash knickers alone, do not mix with other items

Vosene also do a lice repellent spray conditioner/detangler we used. DD was a hugger at primary so caught a lot of nits! Did seem to work after we started using it.
The shampoo contains SLS so you could try one without if things don't improve.
Good luck hope things get better

When I was little I remember I developed an dry itchy skin at the top of my legs. We think it was a reaction to a material used in the pants or elastic. Changing the type of material of pants worked- think pure cotton were OK. Hope the changes you are going to try work - see one change was in type of underwear.

One other thing to think about is loo roll! I have eczema and very sensitive skin. We ran out of our usual loo roll and I grabbed some cheaper stuff to tide us over and I’ve noticed after two days I’m itching in this region. Also consider if the school loo roll is contributing if this is a factor, she may need to take some in with her.

I had this problem, what helps is no baths, not having very hot showers, not using fabric conditioner, seamless knickers, not wearing leggings, drying thoroughlyand also as pp mentioned no scented loo roll
