Has anyone been?

My DS (age 3) is having an operation there and will need to stay at least one night.

What are the facilities for parents like? Can parents stay over? If so Is there a bed in the same room as the child? Can more than one parent stay?

I know DS will be fed but will I need to bring food for myself?

I can't find anything on the website and the doctor's secretary wasn't sure.

When I stayed there pre covid it was all thought about & we/parents were given a menu for all meals that included a wine list!

Ooh thank you! That sounds promising.

What was the room situation like? Is there a spare bed in there?

There was a bed, my child was younger so in a cot, but I am sure it is the same for rooms that have bigger kids beds. It was really clean & everything we needed & en-suite.

Just looked on my photos as a reminder had lovely omelette & green smoothie for me. So they did look after both of us!

There was/still is a Pret-a-Manger on the corner about 2 mins away if you want to escape during the op or pop out during the stay.

Take headphones/earbuds, charger and iPad/phone for yourself. I always like to have some slip on shoes, that can be used like slippers for inside the ward/room.

Usually hot inside most hospitals, so layers help.

Hope all goes well Flowers

If you're going through insurance, then a parent's needs are covered too. It'll be in your policy docs

Downstairs day-case beds don’t have a spare bed but the rooms are nice.

Upstairs the rooms are more spacious (but I’ve never had a tv that works properly 🤣) with en-suite and spare bed in the room. Wardrobe and a safe in the ones we were in.

Menu was good, like a room service style.

If you have a long drive home and don’t want to do it straight away/want to have another couple of days recovery, the Holiday Inn is almost opposite and has a Carpark underneath.

Good luck with the op 💐

Ooh and there’s a Tesco opposite for small things but you might want to bring your own Calpol as discharge paracetamol is very pricey and not always covered by insurance

Thanks so much everyone. En suites and wine menus?! It sounds rather delightful.

Checked the insurance policy doc and accommodation for 1 parent is covered so DP has booked into the Holiday Inn.

Thanks for the well wishes too, its a fairly straightforward op but still a worry when they are so little.
