Hi all

My 7 month old has what looks like a squint . One of his eyes turns in intermittently. Basically his eyes just don’t look ‘normal ‘. I am going to see the go tomorrow. Does anyone have experience of this ? Can they treat the eyes at this age ?
I am so worried. It’s very noticeable ( family / friends have noticed it ) .

My eldest had this, it was more noticeable in photographs. My HV referred him to an ophthalmologist after his 8 month check but said it would likely correct itself. By the time his appointment letter arrived (when he was 15 months!) it was gone/had stopped. He's almost 3 now and not had any problem since.

My son had a squint (strabismus) from very early... even before 3 months. We went to an ophthalmologist & she said that if it hadn't gone by a certain point (I can't remember exactly when that was but it was a number of months) that we would need to do something about it, in case he ended up with a lazy eye, which is where the eye stops sending signals to the brain and eventually gets shut off. He was in glasses at 7 months (incredibly cute) and then had to do patching for a certain number of hours every day in order to 'even out' the squint so he alternated the squint between the eyes. At that point he had surgery on the muscles to straighten out the strabismus. He was about 15 months old then. It went very well and really straightened his eyes.

This is really common stuff - if you look on facebook you will find support groups which are really helpful.
