Three year old rash with photos

I've called 111 and a clinician is calling me back within two hours. In the meantime thought I'd ask for advice. I've given piriton this morning

He stayed at my mum's Friday night, I picked him up at 3am and noticed slight skin coloured rash, raised bumps, on his hands and his back felt rough to touch. He was running around like his usual self, wasn't itchy, I'd assumed he'd touched something that maybe had come up as hives and slight allergic reaction. He used to have an egg allergy and often would get hives, although he is no longer allergic now (for over a year).

this morning still not resolved, seems to be worse now, feels very rough to touch. Seems to have spread to his face and he has scratched himself so one looks raw. No temperature, eating and drinking normally, fine in himself although slightly clingy. Pririton hasn't helped, gave at half six this morning.

he has the chicken pox vaccines and all other ims up to date. Doesn't seem to match any photos on NHS website.

anyone any ideas? I'm assuming 111 will say to head to walk in centre so just packing my bag!

A dry rash can often be Strep. Has he not been ill at all ?
Have you used any new wash powders or anything ?

IceCreamWoes · 16/04/2023 08:03

They've been at their dads for week 2 of the Easter hols, and my mum's Friday night so not sure on washing powder. They've both been ill on and off since Christmas it seems with various coughs and colds!

Slightly odd question, but might he have had Covid recently? We just had it over Easter and my son got a rash like this - only on his hands and arms. He's quite rashy generally and often gets viral rashes so I didn't worry too much and it went within a few days.

Otherwise I would think washing powder is a definite possibility. Could you get to a pharmacy? They're good with things like this.

Scarlet fever rash is rough to touch. Could it be that?

IceCreamWoes · 16/04/2023 08:45

He could have had COVID, I didn't test him but we were exposed to someone who later said they had tested positive. Interesting you say that. My son is always quite 'rashy' too - he must have sensitive skin, and baths often leave him with red marks even though the temp is tepid and his sister is fine.

Scarlet fever does sound like the rough bumps, but he has no flu like symptoms. He is fine in himself.
