white spots on kids' adult front teeth?

Hello. I have three children between the ages of 7 and 13. All three of them have cloudy white spots on their top front adult teeth, but only those teeth. The photo is of the spots on my middle child's teeth. Our dentist says the teeth are in very good condition and that the spots are only a cosmetic concern. I'm nonetheless interested in finding out the cause. I've been told that excessive fluoride might be a cause, but this seems unlikely. Our city doesn't fluoridate the water supply, and I've always been very careful about checking the quantity of toothpaste and rinsing after brushing. After my older two developed white spots, I avoided fluoride toothpaste altogether with my youngest until she was 6. I've also heard that a fever or trauma could be the cause, and certainly all three kids had small accidents or illnesses as young kids, but could that really be the case for all three of them? I'm perplexed. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

My DS has this and his dentist says it is caused by over absorption of calcium, maybe from swallowing too much toothpaste, or some kids just get this regardless. Apparently he just had to live with it - I wish I had known it was a risk because I could have done more to make him spit out all the paste.

I beg your pardon, fluoride not calcium!

I have this and my mum tells me the dentist told her when I was a child that it was likely due to her taking antibiotics and breastfeeding me 🤷‍♀️

Thank you! In our case, we know this is unlikely.

Thank you. I never took antibiotics during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. A real puzzle!

I have the same marks on my tooth. Never thought to ask why, has never been an issue in 40+ years

I was told it was due to being ill while those parts of the teeth were developing. 🤔

Hypermineralisation??

My friend had white lines across her teeth similar to this. She was told it was as a result of her mum having antibiotics/being ill during pregnancy with her. As all your 3 children have this, its something environmental or genetic. Did you ask the dentist if it will change over time or always be like that? Are they adult teeth that are stained?

I have the same (now covered with veneers). I was told it's fluorosis - apparently I used to eat toothpaste as a child 🙄
