Pink Mucus In Poo

My toddler has has diarrhoea today. One of his episodes had loads of snot like mucus in it. I’ve just got him ready for bed and wiped his bum and there was a small amount of pink mucus on the tissue, has anyone experienced this with their children before?

he has always struggled with bowel movements and often doesn’t go for days and is on laxido but this new mucus poo is new. And it smelt awful!!

Hi @WorriedMumZZ all stool should have a trace amount of mucus mixed in (the stool is lubricated to help the passage through the bowl). The "pink" mucus is likely a trace of blood, especially if he has had a lot of hard stool / diarrhoea (he may have a small fissure?). How is his stomach otherwise? I would keep an eye out for it and if it happens again, see if you can pop some in a small, clean container and see if the GP can test it to make sure he hasn't got a stomach virus etc

he’s always had trouble with bowel movements, bless him. I have seen mucus before but this was so shocking! He seems absolutely fine today thankfully! 😀

Personally I would get him checked. My DS has similar as a one off and then a month later again and then a few weeks after that it got significantly worse and he was admitted to hospital for 10 days and diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I'm honestly not trying to scare you but I brushed it off at first and then was basically fobbed off by the GP and no one listened until he was really very unwell. Mucus isn't a concern AFAIK but blood in stools should be investigated.

Infection is much more likely at this age but I'm definitely jaded by what happened to my DS

Just echoing the previous poster. It wouldn't hurt to ask your GP to organise a stool test to measure calprotectin, as there is a chance what your toddler has is an early sign of ulcerative colitis or Crohns. It may be nothing, but it's a relatively easy and non-invasive test to do.
