Inconsolable 4 month old

My 4 month old has episodes of inconsolable crying. I just don't know what to do anymore. He's just woke from a nap couldn't stop him crying so I've fed him early. I've tried everything. The doctor gave me a dairy free formula to try and he won't drink it he looks at me disgusted. He loves his usual milk.
Any advice?

Is the sickiness new op? It could be drool too and then he’s being it back up with some milk. It’s horrid. I’ve had some success with the Ashton and parsons powder with my DD. She’s been more sicky than normal and very drooly. Randomly unsettled and and just not quite able to fall into a deep sleep. It’s a shame for them. Poor babes.

If feeding works, that sounds like the easiest thing to do by far. Why not?

Varying the feeding interval is totally fine - if he's hungry after two hours, or two and a half, that sounds totally fine. Another time he might not want it till three and a half hours, or even four. I think with formula you'd be thinking about number of feeds per day rather than exact intervals?

Some babies are very sicky, my first was - they seem to grow out of it when they start sitting up etc, it's annoying but not forever.

I've upped the amount today to 8oz see how we get on with that. Roll on weaning

If he's sick a lot too it does sound like CMPA. Any skin rashes?

There are CMPA support groups on FB - join one as they can give advice on getting your LO to take the new milk. You may need to swap ounce by ounce, or add vanilla essence or nesquick. I bf so can't directly advise but people on the group will be able to.

@laralou28 I know you didn't like what I had to say before-but I had to come back to say PLEASE don't pin too many hopes on weaning. Sometimes it helps with sleep-sometimes it doesn't. I hope you're one of the lucky ones.

You're saying 180 every 3 hours which you're saying is plenty but like someone else said he might be thirsty in the meantime or might just get hungry before 3 hours like every one else does sometimes. But you don't have to add an extra feed into the day, just give the next one early. And/or each feed doesn't have to be 180, you could do a smaller 80ml feed to top him up if he's hungry early, and then 100 in the following feed. I think play around with it and see what works for him.

My baby has no issues with sleeping. He sleeps 7.30-7.30. The weaning will be good for his reflux

Not necessarily, it made my DD’s reflux worse.

My DD would wake up inconsolable after her nap because she was hungry after sleeping. Either give him a top up before his nap or give the next feed early.

Could he be over feeding to sooth the pain if he had reflux? My DD had horrendous reflux at the age and used to scream for hours. She needed reflux medication to get it under control and weaning did initially make it worse so agree with others this might not solve it.
Agree with a PP, do smaller more regular feeds as a huge bottle could make it worse. Also consider the cmpa formula if he had other symptoms of cmpa, if it is cmpa, it might not get better until he is dairy free and his gut can heal and weaning could irritate this even further.
