could this be asthma?

I’ve no experience of asthma so hoping someone who does can shed some light for me.
my DD6 has over the last 8 weeks or so started to take very deep breaths - mainly at rest or when tired. When I ask her why she says she feels she can’t get a whole breath. Sounds almost like I did when I had covid (she doesn’t).
at the pool earlier she swam a width and pulled herself out and said she felt she couldn’t Breathe and was panting -
recovered fast and splashed happily back in. Now one side of my brain says no wonder she was out of breath, she’s only Just mastered swimming unaided and a width would have definitely exerted her. But often now at rest shes rewlly
taking a deep breath which is unnerving.
am I right thinking that with asthma she would be coughing / struggling after running around? As she doesn’t do this. Or is that wrong?
I have awful health anxiety so keen to check this out for thoughts before I make a Gp appt. She’s well in herself generally.

thank you 😊

Sorry I missed your last post, unlikely to be a tic if it's happening while on the trampoline.

With a pulse oximeter, they are best done on their dominant hand, using the middle or ring finger. If it's big on them though, you can sometimes get a better reading on their thumb or big toe. Nail varnish and bright light prevent them working properly, and hands need to be warm. So coming straight in from trampoline may not be accurate if hands are cold.

This is so helpful! Thank you. I took it on her non dominant hand. She was sleeping so not too warm or cold and cold I used her index finger…..

Just wanted to update as saw gp today.
she wants to wait and see….said doesn’t fit with asthma. It’s been happening more regularly☹️She doesn’t know what it is but has queried anaemia as she’s so pale. However she wants to hold off on bloods for 4 weeks to see if it stops on its own, and if not then she’d like to check for anemia and thyroid.
feels like I’ll just be watching her like a hawk for next 4 weeks but don’t think I have any other option ☹️

I'm sorry you don't have an answer or even a decent plan to move forward with. However I think it would be wise to keep a diary with dates, recovery times etc for when you see the GP next.

Agree with previous poster about a diary. I'm a little confused as to why the GP didn't just do the bloods now... so I'd suggest if she gets worse and you're worried within the next 4 weeks to call back and ask for a telephone appointment and ask for bloods sooner.

Me too, I asked if It Could just Be done now and she said no, wants to see if it resolves on its own before then as she doesn’t like children being put through unnecessary blood tests and otherwise examines well. I understand that but just know I’ll spend the next 4 weeks staring at her and worrying which isn’t great ☹️☹️

Hi there - just wondering if you got to the bottom of this as it sounds just like my daughter and - like you - I’m worried but don’t want to put her through invasive tests and worry her! Thank you ✨
