11 month old constipated for 6 months

As per the title I am in desperate need of advise.

My baby girl has been on/off constipated since 6 months old… she is 11 months. I am at a loss with what to do as trust me I have done it all. Change in formula, prunes, lots of water, baths a few times a da, tummy massages, cycling legs, lots of fibre, varied diet, probiotics, lactolose… the list is endless. When she goes it’s always hard, greenish brown and has bits of fresh blood / sometimes mucus. She cries and really pushes when going.

ive Been to the doctors multiple times about this and even A&E (she did a completely white poo that scared the life out of me). I have been asking and asking the Gp for more advise and honestly I am at a loss with what to do. For perspective on her diet:

breakfast : cereals / whole grain banana porridge w fruit (oranges or strawberries)
lunch: dairy Lea sandwich, fruit and carrot puffs or a Ella’s kitchen spag bol or something along those lines and a yoghurt
dinner : whatever we are having so meat, veggies, mash that kinda thing and a baby biscotti.

bottles wise she has 3 7oz bottles a day on sma colic and constipation (she was on kendamil organic but recently changed to see if anything changes). She most definitely doesn’t eat all her food but I am always trying to offer different things.

please any advise is needed, she has been referred to get checked for cows milk intolerance but I’m a desperate mum looking for other mums advise. Thanks x

Has she seen a paediatrician or a gastric paediatrician? Did anything change at 6mths old which started the constipation? Stopped breastfeeding? Changed formula?

Its a long shot, and likely not the case if all was well since birth and then suddenly changed. I saw a documentary about a rare bowel condition where the peristalsis (rhythmic, muscular movement in the intestines) was missing or impaired in the bottom half of the bowel near the anus- making the passage of poo very difficult towards the end.

The mucous though might be an intolerance like crohns or irritable bowel. Have you tried glycerine suppositories?

Possible Milk intolerance or gluten intolerance? Ask for a dietician referral, my son struggled for years before we were finally seen and she’s convinced it’s a food allergy so are finally starting the elimination process.

Weetabix every morning helps my little one. Apparently kiwi fruit helps but never tried it. Hope you get some more helpful responses soon

The only thing that worked for DS was laxido, he suffered so much and nothing at all worked, even on top dose of lactulose. With laxido he was sorted within a few days.

OP, as someone further down the line on this, please please please look up ERIC, the bowel and bladder charity. You can ring them for advice and i strongly recommend that you do.

This is most likely a condition called idiopathic constipation and if not managed correctly early, it on can cause long term bowel damage which can impact your child for years and years. But there are recommended treatment protocols that can help. GPs and non specialist doctors just don't always know how to treat this correctly. Please ring ERIC.

I'd guess milk allergy. Have you tried doing trial food eliminations?

Try lactose free milk, as she's over a year old stop the sma.
When my daughter was little she was on cow & gate she would get a lot of stomach issues so first I bought goats milk and she was fine with that later o switched to lactose free again she tolerated it well.
Switch milks see how it goes. Powdered milk will just keep bulking her bowels.
