My DS (7) has ears that stick out a lot. He's in year 2 at infant school and has asked if anything can be done to make them look normal. Other children have also started to comment on his ears and tease him.

I saw our GP last week who referred him to ENT, but the doctor wasn't sure if ear surgery will still be funded by the NHS, we just have to wait to see if it's accepted or rejected.

I wondered if anyone has recent experience of NHS funded ear surgery for children?

You need to fund this yourself.

Very helpful, thank you.

Is that based on anything in particular?

This can be done on the NHS we have just had our consultations and pre op, our little one just turned 6. They agreed to it when he was 5.

I’m an ex paeds day surgery nurse and used to see several kids a week going for pinnaplasty through the nhs although this was about 6 years ago not sure if it’s changed but was very common

I had mine done as a child.
There's no reason at all you should fund it yourself. Otapostasis is deformed cartilage that didn't develop properly in the womb.
It's available on the NHS, often when children are being bullied as a result.
