Hello all.

So my DD's nursery rang on Thursday and sent her home with a high temperature. When she got home it was 37⁰c. Through the night she was hot and cold. High and low. And didn't sleep much. When she woke Friday morning she seemed fine she ate like she usually does and was her cheeky self. But I still kept her off nursery and took her to the GP. He told me she has a chest infection. But she has no cough. He prescribed amoxicillin. Anyway. She still seemed to be herself. Eating and drinking normally. Then tea time came and it's as if she crashed. Temp high and she was sleepy and just wasn't herself. We had a bad night again and no sleep. Crying and screaming. Temp up and down. Whinging. Clingy. Saturday morning she ate well and was herself. We went out to play and shopping. She had dinner. Then tea time came again and she was bad again. Temp high. Didn't want to eat. Just want to sleep. Clingy and whingy. Bad night again. No sleep. Up and down. Then this morning she was fine again. Went out for breakfast and she ate the lot. Went out to the park and to the cafe and ate her dinner. Now this time has come again and she's bad again. Temp high. Crying and whingy. And just wants to sleep.. I'm confused, tired, exhausted, worried, not sure what to do.. 111 are no use. Anyone else experienced anything similar can possibly shed a light on what it could be or what I should do?! I'm obvious considering a&e. But don't wanna be wasting any time.

Watching with interest as my daughter has been the exact same this weekend from Friday, but barely eating a thing. I wondered if it was a UTI? GP tomorrow x

I'm surprised that 111 weren't helpful, they're usually very good for children, IME

Do yoy have a walk-in centre? I wouldn't be taking her to A&E, unless she takes a turn for the worse or her temperature rises

Missally - I was thinking the same as I did some reading up and that's all that it came up with. But her wee has been fine. Not oddly coloured. Not smelly. She's not been struggling with weeing and she's been drinking plenty too. She's running absolute riot now. Best She's been since Wednesday evening so I'm hoping whatever it was has subsided. But I'm definitely taking her back to the GP tomorrow.

Wee - 111 have been amazing with me in the past. Definitely can't and won't complain. But I guess when I say her symptoms they aren't really cause for concern as such. The walk in centre required an appointment through 111 and they wouldn't give me one unless her temp spiked passed 39⁰ and medicine didn't take it down, which it has.

It's definitely the weirdest illness I've encountered in the 2 and a half years of being a mum! Would much rather have the runs and a snotty nose. At least I know what I'm doing haha!!

How old is she? Tbh it sounds like a bad virus. I wouldn't be considering A&E at all. I'd stop taking her out to the park and maybe have a couple of quiet days at home for her to rest.

If she's bad tonight then maybe call your GP who prescribed the antibiotics tomorrow? I'm surprised they saw her last week after one night of a fever if I'm honest, unless she's really young. But tomorrow will be 5 days of a fever, and if amoxicillin was right then it should be working by now, so they should see you again.

This is a good advice.
in my experience, uti’s or tonsillitis (common Bacterial infections) have temps that stay high and make kids poorly 24/7.
sounds to me like a virus - she’s fine in day, all reassuring, and all our body temperatures rise at night and fevers are always highest in the evening due to our natural drop in cortisol so it sounds like she still has the virus and I think needs old fashioned rest - no trips out/ park etc just some enforced rest at home and try and kick the virus to the kerb. Fluids+ rest! Hope she feels better soon X

We were- She's 2. She was fine through the night. Slept through. No temp at all. Woke up this morning, ill again. Temp is slightly high but nothing too serious. She's having a day home today as I've decided not to take her back to nursery. It's just so out of character for her to be the way she is and I was just so confused. I wouldn't waste a&e's time if I didn't think it was necessary. She will be back in the GP this afternoon when I've finished work as She's still not right. I've managed to get a wee sample of her first wee this morning and will be getting that tested. So hopefully a day of complete rest will be what she's needs.

Wobbly- yeah my daughter has had tonsilitus 8 times in her short life so I understand that virus haha. Just never had anything like this before. She's drinking plenty and weeing plenty. Just awful when I see her crying and so upset.

Hopefully today's rest will be the cure.

Thanks guys xx

Update

So my daughter got worse since the original post and I bit the bullet and took her to a&e yesterday. Really glad I did. So after numerous tests and a good 10 hours there she's got sepsis.

So she's on intravenous antibiotics for 3 days and then a 10 day course of tablet antibiotics. She already had her first antibiotic late last night and she's a different child already. No temp and she's managed to eat a full slice of toast, a slice of bacon and drink a cup of tea.

The head paediatrician said to me a fever more than 4 days on antibiotics not going or improving means something a little more sinister/deeper than your average infection. So taking her to a&e was definitely in her best interest even though I waited till day 6. She said nothing is too silly or time wasting when it comes to children under 7.

Hope this helps anyone that's possibly going through something similar. It's been awful. But my dd is on the mend and will hopefully be better for Easter.
