Hi all my daughter had chicken pox 12 days ago. My son hasn’t had it yet.
when can I expect him to catch it? Has anyone had siblings not catch it

we go away on Monday 🙈 no signs of it yet but he has just woke up which is unlike him, usually sleeps through

thanks x

10-21 day incubation period. It was 15 days between my dd and ds

SmileyPaella · 01/04/2023 23:48

It's known as the "two week curse" Smile

SmileyPaella · 01/04/2023 23:49

(Though it was 16 days between our two)

Wedoronron · 01/04/2023 23:49

My three managed to spread it out so we had to stay away from people for I think 8 weeks.they then all got the swine flu (remember that one?!) And a result I was on my own with 3 kids for 12 weeks 😜

xxxJess123xxx · 01/04/2023 23:57

I really hope it’s the upper end of the incubation as we are so looking forward to going away xx

2 weeks to the day, which is frustrating when you have just got on holiday then can’t take your child out of the room (ask me how I know!)

Scalessayeek · 02/04/2023 00:00

I think we were literally day 14. My poor six month old got it really bad too as I didn’t realise the higher the exposure the worse they got it :(

xxxJess123xxx · 02/04/2023 00:03

My daughter had it really bad so I’m worried about how bad it’s going to be for him x

14 days exactly and so much worse for the second child.

Aylestone · 02/04/2023 00:12

Yeh it took a while for my second to catch it. The annoying thing is that she has mildish allergies, and managed to develop some hives that kind of looked like chicken pox while her sibling had it, so she had 3 days off school before we realised it was allergies. She was back in school for one day before she came out in chicken pox spots and was off for another week 🙄

Meandfour · 02/04/2023 00:13

DS1 didn’t catch it when DD had it.

Louise295 · 02/04/2023 00:15

My three year old caught it last summer, on our first day of holiday.
My 9 year old never caught it and hadn't had it before x

bettybadger · 02/04/2023 00:18

2 weeks. 2nd child had it worse. Best of luck!!

xxxJess123xxx · 02/04/2023 00:19

Ohhh a couple of posters giving me a tiny slither of hope they he may not get it!! Xx

Usually somewhere between 14-16 days, with a potential range of 10-21 days. Hope you avoid it!

PerrinAybara · 02/04/2023 00:23

14 days for my DC.

xxxJess123xxx · 02/04/2023 00:24

Kids would be gutted if we can’t go xx

Are you due to fly?

Mycatisfatafatcat · 02/04/2023 00:26

Vaccine is available - £100

ChocSaltyBalls · 02/04/2023 00:27

I think my sister got it about 2 weeks after me.

I had it much much more severely than her though

xxxJess123xxx · 02/04/2023 00:28

No not due to fly, just a much looked forward to staycation

xxxJess123xxx · 02/04/2023 00:29

Surely too late for a vaccine

OP posts:
Mycatisfatafatcat · 02/04/2023 00:30

Sorry, yes, just a general recommendation

Utini · 02/04/2023 00:30

Yes too late for a vaccine, it needs to be within the 3-5 days of exposure. You could consider it if he doesn't catch it though, to avoid similar situations in future.

Woahhohoho · 02/04/2023 00:32

Bang on 2 weeks between my two. The second had it worse but isn't such a winge bag about meds so it was actually easier to manage.
