6 year old still awake- would you send to school tomorrow?

I’m too tired to see the woods from the trees here so need some MN opinions!

for some reason my 6 year old cannot fall asleep tonight. she’s tried for hours and I’ve let her get back up with some toast in hope she’ll fall asleep soon. I’m beyond tired myself. she’s not got a temp, seemed fine after school, says she just “can’t sleep”.

i have a horrid day at work tomorrow and keeping her home will be hard, is it right to send her in on what is looking like at best 8 hours sleep? Maybe less? Or do I keep her home? My worry is she will dose all morning and then we start some odd new late night habit. On the flip side my worry is she’s going to come down with something as normally when she’s Ill she can’t sleep (but she’s not Showing any other signs)

what would you do?
thank you from a tired mama xx

Of course send her in. At least she will sleep tomorrow night

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/03/2023 23:04

Up at normal time and into school as normal. Early bed tomorrow.

Aylestone · 29/03/2023 23:04

Wouldn’t even cross my mind to keep her home unless she turns out to be unwell. At least you know she’ll sleep tomorrow 🤷🏼‍♀️

GoChasingWaterfalls · 29/03/2023 23:04

Send her in, unless she's ill. DS is a poor sleeper and he's always coped after a bad night.

DaysofHoney · 29/03/2023 23:04

See how she is in the morning, but if not unwell, go to school and tire her out. DD (7) goes through little phases of finding it hard to go off, but staying home all day won’t help.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 29/03/2023 23:04

Send her to school!

Kayo123456 · 29/03/2023 23:04

Keep her home if you say she is usually ill when she can’t sleep.

LighterNights · 29/03/2023 23:05

Yes, wouldn't even consider otherwise.

AlphaAlpha · 29/03/2023 23:06

If they're not ill, it's definitely school.

Life lesson right there.
I have a habitual 'late nighter' likes to fuck around, get cross that they can't sleep and as a chronic insomniac I really do sympathise, but life goes on.

VioletPickles · 29/03/2023 23:06

School. Definitely. She’ll sleep tomorrow night. If she has a lazy day at home instead she’ll probably not sleep again properly that night either

SkankingWombat · 29/03/2023 23:08

Send her in. School will be quick enough to call you back to collect her if she's too tired to function. Just let the teacher know at drop off what's happened, so they can keep an eye on her.

Mumma · 29/03/2023 23:08

Why would you not?? Its not like its 4am....

CoconutJamSpongeAndPinkCustard · 29/03/2023 23:10

My 6 year old is exactly the same tonight!
Just can't nod off and is laid listening to an audiobook.
I'll be sending him into school tomorrow as long as he is well but will give his teacher a heads up if he's obviously knackered tomorrow.

AnonymousArabella · 29/03/2023 23:11

Wouldn’t cross my mind to keep at home.

wobblymum1 · 29/03/2023 23:18

Oh THANK YOU!
you have no idea how much I needed to hear this! I’ll get her up in time and unless actually unwell she can struggle through the day and go to bed early. don’t know why I was in such a tizz, think it’s because she doesn’t sleep when Unwell so it made me think that was it but she’s eaten a slice of toast with horrid Henry and is now (nearly) asleep.
annoyingly I had plans for a much needed nice bath and glass of wine tonight when all kids were down so am all grrrrrrrr!

thank you all for steadying my arm xxx

My dc are 10 and 13 and 8 hours is probably the absolute maximum they h r ever slot in one go. I send them to school regardless. She might sleep better tomorrow. Don't let her nap!

Mariposista · 29/03/2023 23:30

You don't get a day off work after a bad night's sleep, so unless she is projectile vomiting, covered in blood, unconscious or requiring an A&E visit, send her to school.

wobblymum1 · 29/03/2023 23:41

thank you so so much. She’s now asleep and I imagine I’ll be dragging her from the covers at 7am! as you say, so far anyway, no vomit, temp or anything other than “I can’t sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep I’m hot/cold hot/ my hands hurts/ my pillow is wrong” and repeat 😂
