A severe phobia of being sick

My daughter is 6 and a few weeks ago she was suddenly sick at bedtime.

ever since she talks about being scared of being sick. Constantly. She can’t stay out at grandparents and she cries about her fear.

she asks me over and over if she looks pale, if she’s hot. She comes into my bed every night scared she js going to be sick.

it’s a genuine phobia which I’ve researched called emetophobia.

what can I do to help her.

I’d get some advice from the doctor. I suffered with this as a child and still do as an adult.
I try and make being sick as no big deal, oh well you are you are but you feel better afterwards won’t you?

My mum would charge about panicking when I was sick, making it a really big deal. I was then sick quite a lot in a short space of time and it started from there.

One of my DC has emetophobia. I really recommend Ken Goodman's book. We followed his programme and it made a huge difference. DC was a bit older though (11 at the time). Well done on recognising it so early.

My DD has emtephobia which probably started when she was around your DD age. Don’t ignore it but don’t catastrophise just yet either. My DD has had therapy which has been somewhat successful. Perhaps ask school for help? I would highly recommend the book. Helping your child with their fears and worries by Lucy Willets. As this helped change conversations so that she could reassure herself.
