Hi,

I know there are no medical qualifications on here so I should be wary of taking anything too seriously - but can someone please give me some advice.

My four year old son has had a rash on one leg for the last 8 weeks, appeared overnight, not bothering him. I tried moisturiser, Dermol, Hydrocortisone with no improvement. Took him to the doctors who told me it was a shingles rash - he’s not been sick other than the usual cough and sniffles. As far as I’m aware he hasn’t had chickenpox!

I can’t shake off the feeling it isn’t shingles but I can’t find any images online which are similar.

Any advice greatly received…

It looks like shingles to me. My son only had a mild rash (and wasn’t poorly) but it looked very much like your second photo. That said, if you are worried then take him back to the doctors for your own peace of mind.

I've had shingles twice and the second picture does look like the rash I had on my back.
I was 21 when I had them the first time, but I'd assume it was rare in a child as young as 4?
Also it's most common on the stomach and back areas....or so I thought.
My shingles rash was very uncomfortable, after a day or so it felt like a burn and I couldn't cope with my top touching my skin.

...Oh and I'm pretty sure my shingles rash had cleared up well before 8 weeks, but maybe it does last a while in some cases
