Daughters in agony

Hi everyone, My daughters had blocked tear ducts basically from she came onto this world, she's 10 months now. I've been to GP & they've referred me onto ENT, said it could possibly require surgery. They said they must be over one before they take action. But she is absolutely riddled with it, they've had her on antibiotics after antibiotics and eye drops also. We got a break for about two weeks there after the last eye drop course, but it's back with a vengeance. Her eyes are so red and sore on all the surrounding skin areas and it's thick green gunk flying out of her eyes. She's waking up with her eyes glued shut. Do yous know any tips or tricks that I could use to relieve her a little as I know she's suffering so much with it. Any advice would be a great help. Thanks in advance! X

Bless her. I seem to remember a friend who had a child with this. I don't really have much advice but maybe to clean the areas with a saline solution but hopefully someone with some experience will come along and give you better advice soon. It's horrid watching them suffer. x

Oh it's terrible, her little eyes look burnt. I'm already doing that for her with some cotton wool, she got another course of eye drops, they seemed to keep it away for about 2 weeks after she finished them so I just pray they do that again. She's waking up and she can't even open those big beautiful eyes of hers. X

My daughter had a blocked tear duct in one eye and after a few times of it recurring and cream being used, a paediatrician put her on the list for an operation but as she was only 2 we were reluctant for that to happen as he said she would grow out of it by about 2 1/2. He showed us how to massage both sides of her nose near the top moving down to the start of her cheek- I did this a few times a day and it soon cleared up!

My DD had this for only one eye. It’s horrible for the poor babies. I had to gently massage with cotton balls dipped in warm saline from the outside towards the rear duct. (Theory was that it would gently push the clogged infection outwards.) Not entirely sure it worked, but we also regularly used Chlorsig eye ointment (better than drops imo, as it stays on the lids) to help clear up the residual infection. (Of course, babies hate having that out in their eyeballs, but who can blame them?) **Chlorsig is the name of the antimicrobial eye ointment here in Aus. My DD did eventually grow out of it.

Another vote for the ointment versus drops which tend to wash straight out.

Have you been massaging it OP?
