Helping toddler sleep with chicken pox

DC1 is 2.5 and on Saturday started coming down with the chicken pox

He's now pretty much covered and they look SO sore - especially in his nappy area and generally anywhere quite warm.

We've bathed him in head and shoulder and used oats, given calpol practically as soon as we can and moisturised him (not sure if this is the right thing to do?)

But what can I do to help him sleep? He went down fine at bedtime as he's shattered but he's now been up for nearly 2 hours clearly uncomfortable and not quite at an age of fully understanding why mummy can't help him :(

Haven't been able to get hold of calamine lotion yet but will check another pharmacy tomorrow.

Any tips appreciated

Piriton syrup is your friend x

If u can't get calamine lotion which we couldn't when my 4yr old had it then get Eurax. It's a cream and it absorbs so you don't have to keep washing it off like u do with calamine. The pharmacist recommend it and it did the job.
Hope sleep comes soon for you both Flowers

I'm going back years now but when DS got it in reception (and kindly passed it on to me!) We used a cream called Eurax and it was great- sort of cooling/numbing and moisturising. Calamine lotion dried the skin out and seemed to make it itch more- worth asking at the pharmacy tomorrow. My first foray into mumsnet was because I googled help with Chicken Pox! DS is nearly 21 now and I'm still here Grin

Oh another Eurax fan! what a xpost- I've just googled it and it still exists and recommended for chicken pox.

Piriton syrup honestly. ( im a nurse)

It will manage the itch and help little one to sleep.

Baths in bicarb of soda are fab too.
