Three months with Hoya Miyosmart glasses and prescription jumped up by three steps - any positive / negative experience of sight loss management?

Hello, first time poster, long time lurker, and was really hoping to find shared experience of Miyosmart lenses. We wanted to invest to manage DD10's myopia, as she already has a stronger prescription than anyone in immediate family. However, in three months of having the glasses, one eye has worsened by 0.75, which is three steps. Previously, it had taken over a year to change by 0.5, with normal glasses. I am aware growth spurts etc can affect these jumps, but as I am worried about making decisions which have a negative impact on her long term eye health, I hoped other mumsnetters could say if longer term use of Miyosmart glasses has helped reduce their DC's loss of sight, or if anyone has had issues using the glasses? Thanks!

Sorry to read this, we've just got these for both DC. Their next tests aren't for a few months though, so I don't yet know what the effect will be.

Thank you! I hope they work well for your DC. Am hoping this is just a coincidence and they work well long term. Hopefully someone who's used them for longer can reassure us.

I’d think about contact lenses (MiSight), is she spending prolonged periods on a screen? Remember she also needs to be spending at least 50 minutes a day outside too.

We have had a good experience with misight lenses. My daughter was a bit older than yours when she started with them (13), her prescription had been jumping up by each visit before that. It’s now just increased by 0.25 in one eye over 1.5 years.

Of course it’s impossible to tell what would’ve happened without the contact lenses. The optician did say that even normal contact lenses help to slow myopia progression.

Close screen time, and too much time indoors a big factors in myopia progression, Although it’s pretty hard to regulate those things these days. Good luck!

Hi dufflebag, I am wondering how your daughter’s myopia progression has gone on since last year when you posted about the DIMS MiYOSMART lenses? My daughter, now 15, started with DIMS MiYOSMART in October 2023 and found out today has had an increase of half a diopter in under 4 months. I’m mortified as we are desperate to slow myopia and axial length down as she is already -5 in her good eye and had a retinal detachment in her left eye last year so her sight isn’t perfect in this eye but I’m so upset to learn of a further increase already in her better seeing eye today in such a short space of time. Please try and let me know if these DIMS lenses started to help your daughter or not. Many thanks and best wishes

Hi @Louise1942 I recognise the feeling! It did plateau again fortunately but we haven't had a test too recently so hard to say currently how well it's going long term. A few of the posters on here also recommended contact lenses, I don't know if that's something your DD can use? I hope it does improve and work out for you and your daughter.
