Huge friction burn on face

My DD is 10. She had friends over today and they were messing around putting makeup on one another. She has child's make-up so I didn't think anything of it. Unbeknownst to me she had used some of my lipstick to give herself Rosie cheeks. She went to clean it off after everyone else had gone but as it was lipstick it was really difficult to get off. She's basically scrubbed her cheeks off with a flannel. They are bright red and look very sore. I've given ibuprofen, applied a cold compress, used raw cucumber and have just applied bepanthen. Is there anything else I need to do. It looks horrendous and she is understandably very upset.

Let it settle , hopefully she'll
sleep and see how it is in the morning. Most likely be gone, but if not you could give her an antihistamine. I would imagine the redness is from scrubbing more than the makeup Px

turnthebiglightoff · 10/03/2023 21:44

Crikey. That just have been some scrubbing, did you not have wipes or make up remover?

evemillbank · 10/03/2023 21:45

Oh bless her. Don't put anything else on it. Poor little thing.

Theunamedcat · 10/03/2023 21:45

Both cheeks or one? Is she allergic?

evemillbank · 10/03/2023 21:46

Do you have water wipes? I'd only be putting water on it

Theunamedcat · 10/03/2023 21:49

If its still red tomorrow get some chamomile cream to put on it

AtleastitsnotMonday · 10/03/2023 21:57

Treat it like any other burn regularly cooling it, with cold compresses, no lotions or potions, pain relief, keep an eye out for signs of infection.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 10/03/2023 21:58

Excuse use of dodgy punctuation!

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 10/03/2023 22:00

Fuck! That looks really extreme from just rubbing! I'm thinking it's possibly an allergic reaction. Did she feel any burning or tingling or anything with it on? Poor love, I hope it's better soon.

(Flashback to being that age when I read in a girl's manual that you were supposed to put 'powder' on your face to reduce shine. I went in hard with my mum's talcum powder and nearly choked to death. I smelled nice though...😁)

Lastofyou · 10/03/2023 22:02

Thank you.

Yes it's the scrubbing which has done it. I didn't know she had taken my lipstick (she knows she's not supposed to take my makeup) so just told her to use normal face wash (Cerave) to wash it off. Obviously lipstick is sticky and it wouldn't come off.

AtleastitsnotMonday thanks, that's how I've been treating it. Hopefully it will settle overnight.

@Lastofyou

Any sudocrem floating around?

I find a fine coating would help that overnight and it's antiseptic as well as taking the burn/sting away.

Poor girl looks painful 😣

Mochacino · 10/03/2023 22:13

It looks burnt from your pic but I’d leave it a day or two just to settle just incase it’s a reaction. Do not put water or wipes or anything on it, if it’s sore give the tot some over the counter analgesics or ibuprofen. If you think it may just be a reaction you could try an antishistamine.

if it’s not settling or is getting weepy, see your GP or minor ailment pharmacist and ask about chloramphenicol ointment. We prescribe it in ED for superficial facial burns with good effect. It is usually used on eyes.

Witchytwitchybitchy · 10/03/2023 23:16

Sudacrem is fantastic for this- I use it for sunburn too. It will be gone in the morning.

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 10/03/2023 23:23

I agree that looks like a potential allergic reaction. Can't imagine doing that level of damage with flannel scrubbing 😬
sudocrem sounds like a good bet but I might consider medical advice too.

Lastofyou · 11/03/2023 10:00

Possibly a bit both scrubbing and allergic reaction - she does have very sensitive skin.
Attached a photo of how it looks this morning. I've given her more ibuprofen and an antihistamine and put some more bepanthen on.

Hi,

Nurse here looks like its progressing ok from your picture. Its technically a burn as you say but looks superficial that said its on the face so any concerns re infection (more pain swelling or looking worse) go to GP or A and E. Since its on her face the GP or hospital would be able to refer to a burns unit if they were worried. wash three times a day with water and a clean flannel (washed daily) or guaze from the chemist. Avoid cotton wool. Put a cap on her is its sunny outside. Bless her! She might find it gets really itchy as it heals so you may need to use piriton to avoid her scratching. X

Snowwhite83 thank you so much. Really helpful advice

Maybe use healing gel to speed up healing
