Son keeps being sick

My son keeps getting a really bad tummy ache which causes him to writhe in pain. A few hours later he's sick, and then he perks right up and is ravenous and eats the entire contents of the fridge. It happens 2-3 times a month. I don't think it's a bug as each time nobody else at school are sick and none of the rest of us catch it. Plus if it's norovirus (or food poisoning for that matter) you usually feel grotty for a while with no appetite, you don't bounce back with a huge appetite.

I have called my GP and have an appointment for...10th May! 10 weeks!

So they obviously aren't concerned, but I am, plus he keeps having to miss school (even though I'm certain it's not contagious) and I work full-time too and have to keep missing work to look after him (I obviously don't mind looking after him when he's sick - but when he's fine and bouncing off the walls, desperate to get back to school, it's frustrating).

Has anyone had similar with their little ones? I'm terrified it's something sinister.

Thank you.

when my son kept doing that he was eventually diagnosed lactose intolerant. Could be some sort of food intolerance? How old is he?

I was going to suggest keeping a food diary to see if you can pinpoint a cause

Feacal Impaction, so constipated that the food is building up and eventually he's being sick, then hungry.

Tailfeather · 03/03/2023 16:32

I've made a note of food when he's been suck and no pattern. He has a varied diet but eats lots of the same things. Can you sometimes be intolerant and other times not? Does it build up.

He does number 2s very regularly - twice a day.

Abdominal migraine. Quite typical symptoms especially the cyclical nature of it. We have the other delightful variant of it called cyclical vomiting syndrome. No abdominal pain just 12 hours on non stop vomiting and nausea. Luckily our cycle is 4-6 weeks but quite normal in between.

Could also be some kind of twisting of his colon I suppose?

SeaToSki · 03/03/2023 16:55

I f you think its not infectious (which it sounds like it isnt)I dont think you have to keep him home from school

Tailfeather · 03/03/2023 17:50

@purpledalmation Just googled. It sounds exactly that! Thank you. I'll go back to the GP.

@SeaToSki School policy is 48 hours. I need the GP to send the school a letter to say he can come in after being sick when he feels better as it is short-lived and not contagious.

@purpledalmation How long has your child had it for? Is there a cure or anything to help with symptoms?
