What's your child's normal temperature?

Mine (4 y.o.) always has a temperature of above 37 (ear). Most days 37.2-37.4, some days goes to 37.6. When my DC is ill, it goes up to 40-42.

There is a lot of contradicting information about what's the normal temperature is, as new research shows that 37 is actually above normal.

What's your child's normal t?

Between 36.2 and 36.4. Neither of my children have ever had temperatures higher than 38, not even when riddled with bacterial tonsillitis.

Thanks @LaFemmeDamnee!
I find my little ones temperature odd, and a bit concerning.
Doctors say it's ok.

DD runs consistently at 37.3, 37.4. Generally refuses to wear a coat and will happily be playing in a t-shirt while I'm cozied up in my Oodie...

coffeepleeease · 03/03/2023 09:55

My 6yo runs warm, her normal temp can range from 36.9-37.5

coffeepleeease · 03/03/2023 09:56

She also often get a temp of up to 40 just with a cold

mayflower21 · 03/03/2023 10:30

Thanks @randomsabreuse @coffeepleeease
That's reassuring. She does often catch colds maybe since it's first year of being in nursery

When she was younger I used to panic when her temp hit 40, but now I just expect it when she gets a cold/cough virus!

JustFrustrated · 03/03/2023 10:32

Apparently the higher your natural temperature, the faster your metabolism.

JustFrustrated · 03/03/2023 10:33

Also, my youngest runs at 37.5 whereas I run at 36. So when I get a temperature at 37.5, that for me is the signifier I'm actually quite unwell.

I have consistently icy hands and feet.

Could this be why my child is ALWAYS hungry 😆

catinboooots · 03/03/2023 10:49

We're lizards in this house - all under 36. It's a hard slog to persuade the doctor if one of the boys are unwell because 37 is massively high for us

JustFrustrated · 03/03/2023 10:50

Ha I'm saying yes.

I can't remember where I read it. It's also partially the reason we eat more when due on, our body temperature rises.

Nhs website says normal child temperature is less than 37c. I don’t think it’s new research.

MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 03/03/2023 11:01

When DD was little I had an in ear thermometer and used to panic because her regular temp was 37.4+ - I got rid of it in the end when she was about 2 and went by touch and smell.

cocksstrideintheevening · 03/03/2023 11:05

Dts (identical so you'd think they be similar), one is normal at 36 the other is normal at 37.5 on the same under tongue digital. I generally read at 37 on the same one.

randomsabreuse · 03/03/2023 11:05

My DD definitely has fast metabolism (and is always active). But healthy and rarely ill now she's old enough to wash her hands properly plus Covid times teaching her how to wash them.
