Hi all,

My DC failed an eye screening in school, we went for a retest and DC ‘passed’ all the checks that were ‘up close’ like 3D vision / depth / tracking etc.

She then done the test where DC held a piece of paper that had letters and she held the same and asked DC to point to XYZ. DC had to wear glasses that blocked one eye. DC got about 60 percent right . DC was more interested in trying to look around the glasses with either eye than completing the test and ended up either picking the wrong ones or just acting silly. So essentially DC failed… She couldn’t say if it was just behavioural or DC has something going on so we have been referred to hospital for a check up with eye drops this time.

I’m very anxious about this meaning DC has sight issues.

It’s shocked us more as DC is the first to spot an aeroplane far far away in the sky, the first to spot hidden animals in the zoo etc!

Without drip feeding DC does have a delay and other health issues but never with their eyes.

Hello yes me 👋

This is advice only of course, any concerns go to an optometrists for a double check

Kids are very good at hiding prescriptions. Their internal eye muscles squeeze the lens in the eye like jelly it's so easy. So often a child may have a hidden prescription which we can detect.

The visual system is quite manipulative till 8-ish. The earlier they get their vision corrected with specs the better we can control it.

Hope this helps.

Thankyou- we are definitely going forward with the next test in the hospital that involves the drops.

it just baffles me how he struggled to see the letters about 6 meters away yet can spot things miles away first - before us adults even see them!

thankyou for replying🙂

Sounds as if it’s just a problem with one of the eyes, she’d just rely on the good eye to see far away.

issues like that are the main ones picked up by eye screening and if you catch them early enough they can be sorted out.

please don’t worry.

@underneaththeash
Im trying so hard not to over think it. It’s just with him not being able to do some on either eye from far away… even the optometrist seemed a little baffled by him.
