Accessing help for FND

On the back of the 'child loses use of her legs' thread, I'd really like some help please.

My adult DD has a diagnosis of FND which we accept is credible.

We are on the South Coast and she/we are struggling to get 'joined up' treatment for her. She definitely needs trauma related therapy and also physio.

How do we find help for her?

Who is your child currently under. Do they have a paediatrician? You say South Coast - are your closet childrens hospitals Bath, Bristol, Southampton or London?

There are no FND paediatric NHS services in the U.K. GOSH use to have a team but they aren’t accepting new referrals.

They do still operate a private service. It’s £1500 and it’s advisory only, but it may help in terms of giving an overview of what you need to do - if you can afford.

Your best option on the nhs is to try and get yourself into a pain management/MECFS/neuro rehab service at one of the above childrens hospitals. If you say where you are might be able to recommend best one to try.

Sorry just send adult (very tired). So you have more options. The best person in the SE for FND is Professor Mark Edwards he operates out of St George’s. Also does have a private practice.

If you look on FND hope they have a list of adult NHS services for FND she needs to get referred into one of those.

I know I have confusingly posted in Children's heath, but DD is an adult, she is 23, and married and not living with us.

We have money to go private, but I can't for the life of me work out where to go.

Our nearest south coast city is Southampton.

@BlueBellIris if you can go private go and see Professor Mark Edwards and his team in London

www.brainmind.co.uk

He is the country's leading adult neurologist on FND

The National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery have an FND service on NHS www.uclh.nhs.uk/our-services/find-service/neurology-and-neurosurgery/neuropsychiatry but there is a waitlist.
For adolescence (in case anyone reading this thread is looking for paediatric support) the TRACCS - Treatment for Adolescence with Complex Conditions Service accept FND referrals into their inpatient/daycare programme.
Good luck!
