Toddler mouth rash (pics)

DD 21m has had dry, red inflamed skin around her mouth for weeks. We eventually took her to the paediatrician GP as it wasn't getting any better and her lips were bleeding. She's been prescribed topical antibiotics (fusidic acid), steroid cream, oral antibiotics, and topical antibiotics again, and nothing has worked.

Initially I thought it was dribble rash worsened by colds that meant she couldn't breathe through her nose, but surely it shouldn'tlast this long?

I've asked the paediatrician about fungal infections and even possible nutritional deficiencies, but he assures me it's nothing like that. He's said to keep using the fusidic acid and come back if the redness suddenly spreads.

Anyone had any luck curing this? DD is really uncomfortable.

If it looks a bit shiny in the photo it's because I've slathered her in vaseline!

Oh poor little poppet.

personally I'd use a cream, not Vaseline, as I find that drying.

the stuff the said to keep using, is that a cream? If not can you ask if you can get it in a cream?

hopefully one of the MN gp's/nurses will be along soon!

Aw bless her :( does she still have a dummy? My niece had an infection which caused her mouth to go like this, her mam tried creams and medicines but it just kept coming back! You can try washing dummies as much as you can, but other than literally binning them and buying new there is no way of keeping them fully sterile. She would still need to use them as she heals :/ so it was back and forth for ages!

@Jodielou5972 No she's never used a dummy. Does dribble A LOT though. As in, puddles on the floor.

@AlmostSpring2023 Yes, I may try a cream if this doesn't help. The GP suggested it as a barrier. The fusidic acid was a cream, used 3x a day.
