Help! Best formula for colicy baby!

Hi, I'm not sure if I've put this in the right topic, as I've not posted many times so sorry if it's wrong!
I had my LO is 4 weeks old and he's had colic basically since day one, hes on infacol (2 pumps per bottle) and it was working great, but the last few days his colic seems to have come back although for a shorter time (7pm-10pm instead of 10pm-4am) he is in a lot of pain with it and has been constipated too. He's on cow and gate milk, which I think I'm going to change, so was just wondering if anyone else has any tips on how to help him? And what milk worked best for your LO's? Do the colic relief milks actually help? TIA Xx

Speak to GP first but I was advised by them to give a bit of water as well to help with the constipation as long as not replacing milk with water. Can't help with the formula I'm afraid as Cow and gate was the only one that helped my DD

mummyh2016 · 18/02/2023 22:14

Have you tried using colief? Only thing that made any difference with my DD.

Buttons0x · 18/02/2023 22:37

I've heard that water can help, will call GP Monday and see what they say Xx and did colief help with constipation too or just the colic? Infacol was working lovely but seems to have stopped 🤷🏻‍♀️Xx

We switched from cow and gate to kendamil and it made a big difference!

Is that the plant based one? Did your LO have a milk intolerance as they got older or was it just while they was a baby? Xx

Yeah I found that as well with infacol. Yeah call GP but I'm sure my DD was around the same age when advised

It's whole cows milk whereas the others are semi skimmed. Also doesn't contain fish oil or palm oil. It seems to be much gentler on their tummies and makes them less gassy. My 1st DD had colic which she grew out of by about 12 weeks. 2nd DD needed lansoprazole for silent reflux but that's a whole other story (she had heart problems). If your baby is only in pain in the evenings and doesn't have any other symptoms like rashes etc then it sounds like colic. Milk allergy babies usually have a rash and my reflux baby screamed 24/7 not just in the evenings.
Unfortunately it can be trial and error to see what works between infacol, colief and gripe water. None of them were a magic cure with DD1, but changing to kendamil definitely helped.
I hope it works for you, I know how stressful it is having a screaming baby

We used colief when dd had colic. It’s seriously worked like a treat. I thought it’s just an expensive gimmick but the first time I gave her you could tell the difference. I gave it to her for about 3.5 months then I thought colic should have stopped now but how wrong was I! Gave her an extra 2-3 weeks and she was fine afterwards.
Hope it’s gets sorted and congratulations on your baby!

Yes this! Kendamil organic

MeinKraft · 19/02/2023 07:12

If you switch to Kendamil it will either solve the problem or show up a milk allergy IME. Lots of people on the CMPA groups say the same - they thought it was just colic until they switched to Kendamil. Then the CMPA symptoms got so bad that they had enough proof for the GP to prescribe hypoallergenic milk. Not sure why but maybe because it's made with full fat milk? It's a great formula if your baby doesn't have a milk intolerance though.

Have a look at something called the witching hours.

Both mine did it. Cried every night from 7pm to 10pm between newborn and 3 months old.

Very normal and nothing to treat. One was mix fed one EBF and they still both did it.

I found knowing it would happen and that it was normal helped.

I ate before it started then I settled on the sofa with a good box set. I'd either have them on boob or on a dummy. Small regular bottles can help too (like an oz at a time small)

They grow out of it eventually.

All formula milk is the same nutritionally and any additional claims are just marketing and not proven.

Thank you all so much for your replies! Will buy some colief today and speak to GP about changing milk and/or giving water before bottles. I have 2 other DC and partner works nights so bedtime is hard for them both while the baby is so upset so open to try anything, again thank u all so much 💕
