Hi. My 7 year old son has a nervous habit of licking his lips which leads to really red and sore skin around his mouth. I’ve been sending him into school with a lip salve for years, which helps a lot, but now his teacher is saying he can’t bring it in because it is not prescribed medication and there’s a risk that someone else may get hold of it and use it (I normally send him in with one which has a name sticker on them, but admittedly this particular one didn’t ). I think this is because of the risk of allergies.
I know for a fact there are lot of other children in his school taking in lip salves/balm/ Vaseline etc., who have either not been seen using it, or whose teachers are simply not thinking of it as a rule- breaker. I don’t want to burden the NHS by booking a nurse/gp appointment to a get a prescription for some thing which can easily be treated cheaply over the counter, and frankly avoids all the (in my opinion) pointless faff around form filling, storage, and having to have him use it only at set times (seriously ridiculous…)etc. Etc.
Has anyone else encountered this? So annoying!!
