Fever and unwell for 5 days

Hello, just looking to the hive mind for some advice or previous experiences.

My DD who's 18 months, went to nursery Wednesday absolutely fine but got a call at 1pm to say she had a fever of 38.8 after her nap and she was lethargic so please collect. All afternoon she was tired but still eating and drinking.

Thursday morning she woke vomiting and couldn't keep fluids down really. Her nursery has struggled to open all week due to staff having a D&V bug so I put it down to that. She still had an on and off fever but highest was 39 which came down quickly with calpol.
Despite the vomiting she was still asking for and having food and drink and she kept all the food down.

Friday she vomited once in the morning and had a loose nappy and another vomit in the afternoon but had gone off food and wasn't drinking much at all. Friday night she spiked a fever of 41, was shaking head to toe and didn't have a wet nappy so on 111 advice I took her to urgent care.

They started a fluid challenge which she failed due to refusal so they kept us in the peads assessment bit until 5pm Saturday. Gave her some antisickness which made her happy to have some fluids and she finally had a wet nappy so they sent her home assuming it was a D&V bug. No vomiting at all since Friday afternoon and two solid poops.

Today again, no sickness or diarrhea but she's been very very lethargic still. Slept from 6:30pm Saturday-8:30am today when I woke her. Then by 10:30 had fallen asleep on the sofa. All day she's just sat on my lap or laid on the floor and hasn't been interested in playing at all. She's not eaten but has been having sips of the apple juice and water combo we were recommended and has had wet nappies.

She's spiked a fever of 39 again this evening and I'm just a bit concerned what with the exhaustion alongside things.

Ears, throat and chest sounded clear (though she does have a wet sounding rattling cough when she does cough.. which isn't very often at all). Urine is being tested tomorrow though it's not cloudy or foul smelling as it was when she had a UTI at 3 months.

I'm taking her back to the GP tomorrow but just a bit unsure what's going on? Anyone have any experience with fevers going this high and exhaustion lasting this long with a D&V bug? She's had a few now and hasn't been this poorly with them. She's also only really vomited a few times whereas the last couple she had were... a lot.

Anything I can do to make her more comfortable in the meantime? She's snoozing now and I'm laying in with her just to keep an eye!

Definitely GP again tomorrow and if you're worried overnight take to a&e - after 5 days it usually either resolves quite quickly or gets worse quickly. When I had this happen with my 11 month old it was a UTI and she was admitted for a week.

Oh gosh what a worry for you! When mine had a UTI at 3 months it was 10 days of antibiotics but thankfully she present very UTI from the start so able to catch quickly. I'll keep a very very close eye on her tonight and will take her if she seems to worsen at all. Such a worry when they can't tell you! I'm so hoping it resolves and she perks up!

Good luck, it's so stressful when they're unwell, especially the nights.
I find I only relax after about the age of 5 when they can tell you in sensible language exactly how they feel.
I can be a bit of a worrier with my children and tend to be quick to seek help if I'm worried but I always think it's better to go and be reassured than to make the wrong call

Are you giving her both calpol and nurofen?

It is very stressful!! Until now there hasn't been many "I'm really worried" moments. The normal coughs, colds, croup (which did freak me out a bit!) But nothing where there's been no one thing thats worried me, other than just an overwhelming feeling of worry?!
Absolutely better to be safe. I worked in A&E when I first qualified and I'd always always say "I'd rather see 1000 well babies/children than one unwell one".
Feels like all that training goes out the window when it's you're own!

Yeah I'm giving them both alternately. She's had all she can have for now and her fever is down to 38.5. Better than climbing I suppose. She just seems to burn it off quickly!
