Child’s skin has come in contact with bleach?!

Hi so I’m panicking a bit. My son is 4 and I’ve just in to check on him in bed and noticed a mild red rash on both of his hands. I’m sat on his bed looking at them thinking what could have caused it then I realised…
I had poured some bleach in the bath this afternoon to sit after cleaning in there and completely forgot come bathtime and filled the bath up as normal with bubble bath. My son was in it for around 30 mins.
The rash isn’t on any other part of his body I have checked. He didn’t complain of any pain or anything during or after the bath.
Is it really as bad as I’m thinking ?!

I've heard of people having bleach baths so I'm sure it won't have a bad effect on him. It wouldn't just be his hands affected if it was the bleach and the rest of his body was in the water too

No, it really isn't. If it was the bleach (and it isn't) why isn't the rash on the rest of his body too? Sodium hypochlorite (common name; bleach) is used in swimming pools as part of the disinfection process.

How didn’t you smell it?
I’d be more concerned about his eyes, did he wash his face/hair in the bath water?
It does seem odd it’s just his hands, unless there was bleach on the sides and he’s touched it directly?

Bleach would turn the skin white, not red. I wouldn't be too concerned. Keep an eye on it that it doesn't spread. If it becomes inflamed or itchy see a pharmacist tomorrow.

No it’s not bad because the bleach would have been highly diluted.

People soak babies’ bottles and teats in Milton and then use them.

And as pp said swimming pools are full of chlorine.

He'll be fine. I would probably rinse him off though, to be sure, if it was a decent glug of bleach. It would be more concentrated than a pool.

Ok thanks guys. I definitely over panicked.
