Posting here for ideas as this has never happened before. He said he felt like he needed to pee and then it just came out, he couldn't do anything about it.
Could this be an infection or one-off? Should I call the doctor or wait to see if it happens again? But that might be really embarrassing for him, this time he was just walking from from school so no-one saw.

Did he feel feint at all ? Had he eaten at lunch time ?
A urine test would be a good start.

SummerHouse · 02/02/2023 16:22

This happened to my DS also 13, also after school waiting for pick up. We didn't think anything of it. I think I would treat it as a one off unless of course it happens again.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/02/2023 16:24

Personally I'd call the GP because of it is a UTI they treat straight away before results of urine tests in boys/ men unlike girls.

itsgettingweird · 02/02/2023 16:28

Had he ignored a warning sign he needed a wee and thought he could hold on?

I've learnt in adulthood that if I wait until I get home by the time I'm thee I'm even more desperate because you relax when out of work/ school environment.

I always empty my bladder before I leave somewhere because often it's fuller than I recognise.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 02/02/2023 16:28

Could be a UTI. I would go to the docs with that.

Headstones250 · 02/02/2023 16:37

I did this once, aged about 15. Pretty sure it was a UTI, looking back.

007DoubleOSeven · 02/02/2023 16:39

Could be a nasty uti, definitely see a doctor - easy to treat and horrible to suffer.

onepieceoflollipop · 02/02/2023 16:41

I’d check with him first if he’d been regularly at school or if he was trying to wait.

I’d also ask if he had had anything different or more than usual to drink.
Am unaccustomed large amount of cola for example, or energy drink may have taken his body by surprise?

My daughter hates going to the loo at school and it has caused all sorts of long term bed wetting problems. Could it be that he doesn’t feel able to go at school?

TheProblemIsMe · 02/02/2023 16:45

This happened to me around the same age because I didn't go to the toilet for the entire day. I hated the toilets, they were dirty and the kids who hung around them were intimidating. Could this be the same for your son?

AcrossTheRoad · 02/02/2023 16:47

I do t think it's any problem with using the loos at school. Will quiz a bit more about drinks and things

If he's feeling well, and there's no stinging or burning when he did go, I'd assume it was just an accident and he'd misjudged his ability to hold on all the way home. I think we've all been in similar desperation at one time or another.

Maybe he's embarrassed about having had a genuine accident so doesn't want to say 'Yeah, I left it too late and weed myself'.

Over the summer break 2022 all of the toilets at my dd’s school became gender neutral.

2 rows of floor to ceiling cubicles facing each other, sinks in the middle. My dd tells me that neither the girls nor the boys like them. She is in a big friendship group with boys and girls.
so might be worth asking your ds if there has been any recent change to the facilities, which might include queues at break or whatever?

2bazookas · 02/02/2023 16:54

Had he held on far too long, to avoid visiting the toilets at school?

I'd run that past him in case there's been some issue there.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 02/02/2023 16:58

Is he thirsty?
Tired?
Just before I was diagnosed with T1 diabetes I could not hold my bladder so if he has that combined with other symptoms either see gp or pharmacy can help too.

I thought the sinks had to be the cubicles to make this legal? How horrible for the girls who have to deal with periods.

By the other schools have had to turn toilets back to traditional single sex males/females after successful campaigning by students and parents. Perhaps, it's something you could look into for your daughter's school?

TheWitchesAreBackInTown · 02/02/2023 17:01

*by the way

onepieceoflollipop · 02/02/2023 17:14

@TheWitchesAreBackInTown
I’m not clear re the sinks and whether they have to be in the cubicles or whether this is seen as good practice? I know the doors/walls have to be floor to ceiling no gaps.
I asked dd if she wants me to raise it but she doesn’t want me to…she’s year 11 so I’m inclined to respect that otherwise I would. It’s not nice for any of them. I personally feel if some dcs wanted a gender neutral facility then they could have installed one or converted one and left the rest alone!

it’s not just the girls who don’t like it, the boys don’t either, hence me mentioning it here.

TheWitchesAreBackInTown · 02/02/2023 17:23

Most boys don't like mixed sex loos either tbh.

I think there was new judgment around loos today but I haven't read it.

Sarahcoggles · 02/02/2023 17:41

I would get a wee sample and take it to the GP surgery to ask if the health care assistant could dip it

SunSmile · 03/02/2023 08:24

My son has a fear of school toilets so avoids going at all costs which is a big problem that is difficult to solve, could be something like that?
