Oh goody. Threadworms

DS who is 6 was complaining of an itchy bum before bed tonight then woke up about an hour and a half later whinging and complaining it was super itchy. Took a look and sure enough, it's threadworms so a trip to the pharmacy tomorrow to get the all sorted out for all of us.

Only issue is he is absolutely wide awake, turning the whole thing into a catastrophe in his head and will not fall back asleep (he's a bit dramatic sometimes!) I know tonight will be rough as I don't have the medicine to give him or any creams etc. but does anyone have any suggestions for over the next few nights what I could do to help him sleep? Anything I can put on his bum or whatever? I can't take days of very little sleep for both of us!

I'll be giving him a quick wash in the morning, cleaning the beds and pjs etc. and obviously getting whatever I need from the pharmacy. Any extra advice would be welcome.

Poor both of you ☹️
literslly just dealt with this:

  1. warm bath of bottom area (even in sink) and tell him they’ve gone (if the idea is upsetting him) then dry off and lather sudocreme on
  2. 2. if you have an anti histamine like piriton give that, will help with itching and sleep

ovex will work fairly fast but unpleasant in meantime. Good luck 💐

Agree with both suggestions above. Although mine hate the feel of sudocreme so depends how yours reacts to it.

Make sure you all take a second dose of ovex 2 weeks after the first one, this is to kill any worms that were eggs at the first dose (ovex gets rid of worms not eggs)

two threads on thread worms at the same time!! must be going around.

He will probably be itchy tomorrow too as they take a few days to die off.
A huge glob of Vaseline right where they are stops the itching as they are unable to come out and wriggle around.

Thanks for the advice. I'll make sure to grab some vaseline, sudocrem and piriton.i hadn't thought of piriton for the itching! Hopefully we get rid of them fast. He finally fell back asleep about 1am but was tossing and turning all night

Gave DS Ovex yesterday when he got home from school (plus piriton before bed/vaseline too). He slept much better and wasn't as itchy.

He did however come out of school complaining he was freezing cold, I took his temp and it's 37.7°. Because it's 24hours after I gave him the Ovex I'm guessing it's not a side effect but I'm just checking that no one else has had any experience of a temp after it?

Other than feeling cold, having a temperature and a bit tired he's his usual self.
