Could this be an immune deficiency? 8 year old

Hi
my poor child has been very ill lately with recurrent pneumonia with 3 months of each other and collapsed lungs which have resulted in hospitalisation both periods for over a week each time. In between this she has also had other infections colds temps skin infections she’s currently on yet another course of antibiotics etc her lungs have been checked fully with ct and bronchoscopy and nothing significant found. However I don’t believe they have tested her immune system.

does anyone have any experience of these kind of problems? What do I need to look out for symptom wise and and what do I ask ask the consultant to test for? My daughter often complains of stomach pains and has soft stools often too.
we have an appt next week and I don’t want her to be discharged without fully investigating potential causes of these recurrent serious infections. I’m in a constant state of worry every time she isn’t well which is a lot of the time and have been told by the consultant and GP to have a low threshold for taking her to the dr but I need to know they have looked into everything as with immune system issues I believe there are medicines they can take to help. This will be her first clinic appt after her recent hospital stay on the wards it was always rushed ward rounds so I never felt we got time to ask any questions or find out what they were thinking .

My DD was investigated for immune system issues as part of her long covid blood panel. They looked at iGA and iGG I think. She is partially igA deficient and needed the test repeated a couple of months later to confirm. My understanding is that for igA deficiency there isn't any treatment. The GP should have a lower threshold for issuing antibiotics and we are also aware that she may develop an autoimmune disease - we were aware of this due to family history. It's sort of worth knowing and sort of not. Are they doing full blood counts for her?

When we were first seen by the respiratory clinic, my daughter had lots of blood tests for immune deficiency, including checking whether or not she had immunity from her childhood vaccines.

Clinic appointments are the expected time to deal with this kind of concern - if you say "I am worried about an immune system problem" they will be used to evaluating that as part of the history-taking.

On the whole it's your job to present information and your ideas/concerns, you shouldn't be in the position of needing to directed them towards specific tests. Both parties should go in with an open mind.

Many thanks for the advice, I will certainly bring the subject up. The consultant we are seeing is the same consultant we met on the wards and wasn’t the most communicative with us so I want to be sure she isn’t discharged without all the appropriate investigations done.
