High platelets thrombocytosis

Has anyone had a child with high platelets that can reassure me?

My now 5yo had bloods done around his second birthday which showed marginally raised platelets (550 if I remember correctly). Paediatrician wasn't bothered and said it was likely due to the current viral illness he had.

He has recently been having occasional episodes of losing energy/colour from his face, being vacant etc. GP suggested bloods which we have had done. All normal other than raised platelets again - now 660. I'm waiting to hear from the GP tomorrow but obviously worrying now. Obviously on their own I know it can just be transient from a viral illness but this is suggesting a long term trend of high platelets which seems more concerning? Google is a frightening place with mentions of blood cancer 😔
Has anyone had a similar experience? Just wondering what to expect next...

Hi, I have high platelets as does my son who is now 14, this is generic from my side of the family. We both have yearly blood tests to check levels and it has no effect on daily life.

My Son is under a hematologist and had to be cleared to have some teeth out in hospital due to clotting so do beware of things like this. Try not to worry though.

Although it can be relevant for adults, high platelets on their own would not generally be a finding suggesting cancer or another serious problem in children. The blood film will be specifically looked at for the presence of abnormal cells but you would be told about that urgently if there were any there.
Most likely they will want to repeat down the line, depending on the circumstances write to a paediatrician or haematologist for advice if they feel in uncertainty too.
