Eye Hospital appointment but Son has just broken his glasses

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice. My son has a Eye hospital appointment on Wednesday. He has to see eye Dr regularly.

When he goes to see eye Dr they alway do eye test and make him read the letters etc.

The problem is earlier today my son tripped and fell over out side our house and his glasses fell off. Before we could pick them up a delivery van drove to our house and ran over them.

They are completely smashed.

I took him straight to opticians earlier as he can't see without glasses. But they cant get a new pair made up in time for appointment.

I went to several optician to see if any could make a pair of glasses quicker but no where could.

Should I still take him to appointment, he won't be able to do eye test as he can't see without his glasses. What would you do?
He isn't having his prescription checked as his prescription is quiet new. So they won't be putting those funny glasses on and sliding lenses in. The just make him read with his own glasses on

Any one been in this situation. I was wondering if it would be better to cancel and re arrange appointment for when he has new glasses.

I hate cancelling appointments last minute though.

Don't know what to do.

Sorry if this is a stupid question

Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in advance

I'd ask for his prescription so they can match it with the testing lenses and get an idea how his sight is with his glasses

Ursula82 · 23/01/2023 16:13

100% yes go.

they will provide the appropriate lense that fit current prescription

Whydoineednewusername · 23/01/2023 16:13

Can you call the hospital and ask them?

Ursula82 · 23/01/2023 16:14

He’s going to an eye hospital to see how he reads with his glasses on? And that’s it?

MollyBunny154 · 23/01/2023 16:40

No he has eye drops put in, has photos taken if his optic nerves and sees eye Dr who looks at his eyes. But the eye test is a big part of it.

Again I did say sorry if a stupid question.

It's not a near by hospital, it's nearly 3 hours away. It's a specialist eye hospital , I don't want to travel all the way there just to be sent home and told to come back another time.
I don't want to mess hospital around either.

I have tried phoning but can't get through. I'll keep trying

Just wondered if any one had had a similar experience and what you did.

Again sorry if it's a stupid question

Eye hospital
mI would be floored if they didn’t have lenses that exactly match the strength required. If you don’t know they will have in his notes

I feel I haven't explained very clearly so I apologize and will try and explain again. When we go to eye hospital he first sees I think it's a nurse. They take him in to a room than has the eye test chart on wall and a chair.

He sits in chair and is is asked to read what they point to on chart. With his own glasses on. They often put a patch over one eye so can test one eye at a time.

At no point do they put those funny frames that they slide lenses in. They don't even have them in the room.

He only has that done once or twice a year to check his prescription. And has to go to another room to see some one else for that. He isn't having that this time as had that last time.

Then he has drops put in his eyes.
We have to wait about 30 minutes, then he is taken to a special room to have photos of his optic nerves.

After that he goes to see eye Dr. Who just looks in his eye with special tools. But again at no point do they put those frames on which you can slide lenses on.

I hope this makes sense

Eye hospital know his prescription they are the ones who issue it. But like said they at no point put those frames on that they slide lenses in. They all ways do test with his own glasses on.
Without glasses he would not be able to read anything on eye test chart.

I'll keep trying to ring them.

Thanks anyway everyone for your replies

Op

what I am saying is

they could use those “funny frames” with his precise strength lense in that were in his glasses!!

Ursula82 · 23/01/2023 17:16

They know his prescription

The have lenses that will meet that prescription

your son will wear the “funny frames” during his eye test.

job. Done

MollyBunny154 · 23/01/2023 17:35

Thanks I understand what your saying but I fear it's not that simple.

They do things rather different at eye hospitals it's not like opticians
Everything isn't in just one room. I will ask hospital if manage to get through if it's possible to do this.
But like said. Only the specialist that checks prescription has those funny frames you slide lenses in and they are only ones aloud to touch them.

If they are not available or they are seeing other children they might not be able too.
My son is not due to see them this time.

I know it probably sounds stupid but that's how they do it at this Specialist Eye Hospital.

I will ask though

I understand what you are saying as my son was under eye specialists at our hospital, but I would still go if you cannot get through.

TheWristBoundLatexBitch · 23/01/2023 22:27

Eye hospitals have "normal" glasses which they switch the lenses out on as well as the bigger style that they have in opticians, so you should be ok.
