Severe threadworms - double dose Ovex?

DD9 severe threadworms. Last night they were so bad I rung 111 at midnight. Said to follow up at pharmacy today… (I’m afraid I didn’t due to a migraine all day. She was also fine in the day time, obviously; the little buggers only come out at night!)

Still very itchy and lots of worms still coming out of her bottom. (Last night I was showering her bottom every half hour to get rid of them. But better today but she’s still v I comfortable and can’t sleep).

Gave first dose of Ovex (liquid) yesterday at 8 pm. Can I do another now? Any medical people out there?!!

111 said 24 hours later would be earliest you can do it, but would it be safe? Or pointless? Thank you.

It takes a few days to work so no I wouldn't dose again. You have dosed the whole family havent you?

A pharmacist once told me it's not a medicine as such and she said to dose after 7 days and then another 7.
When my boys had them I put sudocreme on their bottom at night for a few nights. Stopped them wriggling out.

Maybe some vaseline or something thick on her bumhole will stop the eggs attaching. It's the glue that causes the itching.

Badbudgeter · 22/01/2023 21:41

Ovex basically starves them so they take a few days to die during which time they seem extra active. Do you have any Vaseline type stuff. A-crushed clove of garlic mixed with Vaseline applied to bottom and they won’t come out to lay eggs which stops the itching. They’ll be dead soon but take another dose in ten days to get rid of anything that’s hatched after taking the Ovex and you should be fine. Extra garlic in diet if your dc will eat it. Apparently a salad made of grated carrot and apple helps scour the colon clean.

Thanks, ladies. Yes, whole family dosed up. Cleaned the bedding, all the towels.

Actually, she’s just dropped off, thank the lord!!! Fingers crossed she stays asleep.

I’ve covered her in sudocreme. Hoping it blocks them tonight. Last night they just came wiggling through it (honestly, there were about 30 all over her buttocks after 30 mins of wiping clean. Isn’t that gross?!! Never seen it so bad! Sorry for TMI. Far fewer tonight)

Thanks, @Badbudgeter. Will try the homespun stuff tomorrow! Sounds good!

My DD was prescribed Ovex by a paediatrician for tummy issues to rule out worms. He gave her a 5ml dose daily for three consecutive days to be repeated two weeks later, did her no harm but there was no evidence of worms.

Thank you, @DumpedByText. That’s really helpful to know. I’ll see how they are tonight. I think they may be on the way out…
