Hand hold please - can’t put DS down!

its midnight, I’m tired and worried I’m going to fall asleep… but my DS who is 7 months old is poorly. He’s had a little rattle on his chest for a few days and today seemed a little out of sorts all day… then this evening he started to be sick. I checked his temp and it was 40! Poor little guy.

His temp came down with some calpol but I have banned myself from overdoing it with the thermometer- I have a tendency to become paranoid, checking temps every 5 mins!

anyway, long story short… every time I put him down, 5 mins later, he is crying his eyes out. When I pick him up, he falls asleep on my shoulder… so now I am sat in bed with a heavy little boy snoozing on me. He feels a bit hot but not burning up.

Any tips on how I might be able to get him down comfortably? I’m a bit worried he’ll want to be cuddled all night… and I am trying my best to keep my eyes open so I don’t fall asleep!

Can't you just have him in bed with you tonight ? That way you can keep an eye on him aswell

I'd Co sleep if you can do so safely and get him to GP tmro

Just get snugged up together. You're falling asleep, he's happy with you, better to make a positive decision now and get the pillows moved than to keep nodding off.

I’m always worried about co-sleeping so haven’t done it before - not even with DD who is nearly 5. I’ll have a quick google about how to do it safely … I think you’re right that it might be my best option!

If you can’t co sleep, warm his cot with a hot water bottle so he doesn’t notice the temperature change and also put a worn t shirt or similar of yours in the cot too so that it smells of you. Is it possible to move the cot nearer to your bed so you can touch him to settle if needed?

Lindtcat · 19/01/2023 00:57

Tbh if you don't want to co sleep best option is you sleeping next to his cot, or moving his cot closer to you. He's gonna want to be close to you tonight.

Read the lullaby trust instructions for Safe cosleeping.

Partial success… so he’s been asleep next to me but I have had to sleep with one hand one him. He’s just up and feeding… temp has stayed down for now…

gosh I’m tired but sleep is over rated right?

thanks all for your suggestions!
