Scarlet fever?

My 9 month old went to soft play on Friday and on Saturday morning was very sleepy and lethargic. A bit later she had a temperature which did come down with calpol.

Later on she threw up so I changed her and noticed a rash. Today she doesn't have a temperature and seems much better but still has this rash all over her body.

I've now got a sore throat so I'm thinking she might have scarlet fever / strep a.

My question is should I take her to the doctor and ask for antibiotics? She's still happy, playing etc, hasn't got a temperature anymore, just the rash. Still isn't 100% herself but I don't want to ask for antibiotics if she doesn't really need them.

Thank you Smile

Definitely take her to Gp tomorrow. Guidelines are still to be very cautious with strep A and chances are rash could be scarlet fever. Also fits as it came on suddenly which is a symptom of it. Best case is they say it’s a viral rash and no antibiotics needed but you can’t make that call; they need to get a good look at her throat and tongue and glands. my daughter has had it twice and was very poorly until antibiotics worked (40+ temps, hallucinations, it was awful) so I’d advise letting the Gp make the call here.

Get her checked but it would likely have taken more than about 20 odd hours from being in contact ti having symptoms so think where else you might have been. Loads of nasty his going about so not necessarily that either

I always get gp to check little ones. They can’t tell you what hurts

@wobblymum1 thank you for your advice, I'll call them in the morning

@liveforsummer she was last at the childminders on Tuesday but maybe that was too long ago? I'm not sure. She hasn't been anywhere else. Very strange. I honestly have no idea what it is, I'm purely guessing Sad

It’s so hard to know how and where little ones pick things up from. It could simply be viral rash but not worth taking the chance if it is strep A as the sooner she starts the antibiotics the less severe it will be for her. only a GP can know for sure by examining her throat and tongue and glands. Let us know how you get on,

Not too long at all- could be up to 7 days but 2-5 is the norm which that still falls in. Ours is a very healthy household and we've been nothing but ill since going back to school (2 school age dc and I work in one) in August. I hope she's better soon. Do get her checked given the rash x

Got an emergency doctors appointment this morning. Dr didn't say what she thought it was but did say she's got a sore throat and a sore ear also. Prescribed her antibiotics. Thank you for the replies Flowers

I forgot to mention to the dr that she's also got a bloodshot eye - her left eye looks like there's little burst blood vessels in the white of her eye. She hasn't been coughing so I doubt it's from straining. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Great she’s on antibiotics 👍could just be a little viral eye infection or from being sick the other day as it can strain the eyes. Doubt it’s anything to worry about 🙂
