DS2 is 17 months and still dealing with silent reflux.

currently since 2 back to back viruses and antibiotics his reflux has flared massively. I am concerned now as he is coughing a lot, choking, hiccuping frequently and having screaming episodes when asleep in pain (arching back and coughing)

it reminds me of when he was a young baby. Anyways he is ok Omeprazole and has been since 8 weeks old. Really didn’t want to use it this long and was we aiming to wean him off slowly. Got down to 3.5ml and now the gastro team wants us to go back up to 10ml for a month whilst he’s struggling.

many advice for parents in a similar situation?
Really though he’s of outgrown it by now. he has multiple allergies all under control.
also has tongue tie but been divided 3x so can’t reallt get it done again.

My 8yo has reflux. It flares up randomly sometimes and also with viruses. Stress makes it worse too. Gaviscon Advance sometimes helps with lansoprasole for a flare up.

We are stuck on lansoprasole and have been for years. Gastro think my child may outgrow it so we try coming off it every couple of years but coming off the lansoprasole causes issues with weight and possibly aggravates respiratory issues for us so it's not an option for my child for the moment. Reassuringly the consultant said the latest data about long term ppi use is reassuring and they no longer think it is particularly risky to be on it long term.

Are there any food triggers for your child? We avoid smoothies, soup, pastry, macaroni cheese, chocolate and a few other things. We did try going dairy, soy and gluten free (and kept a food diary) but it didn't do anything.

There is lots of other advice for kids and reflux - raising pillows, not eating for the 2h before bedtime, eating little and often etc. None of it has been that helpful for us though!

Have they ever suggested pushing for any tests for your 8 year old?

he has multiple allergies dairy, wheat and egg soo all food is freshly cooked, nothing fatty or greasy is eaten due to allergies.

noticed tuna or some fruits can make it worse.

im just worried about being on Omeprazole is making it worse because it suppresses the stomach acid the body is always trying to make more. So we wanted to see if we could get him past it and allow the acid to return to normal but he’s in so much pain with it we just can’t do it.
