Strep antibiotic help

Thea91 · 13/01/2023 18:02

My DS is 2 and has been the GP today and has suspected strep. And I cannot get the antibiotics in him, I have tried both tablet and liquid form.
I have tried in a yogurt, mixed with calpol in a syringe, a chocolate moose , pinning him down , everything. He just vomits it back up in minutes. And he now won't take calpol either. I have called the pharmacy and they can offer no more advice. Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks

I managed to get my son to take the tablets with honey. Its so hard when they are like that. Mine gags at everything anyway so I understand how hard it is. Really hope you get it in him. X

It’s so stressful trying to get meds into them. When mine were little it was a 2 man job, DH would hold him in a tight hug (basically his arms pinned) and I’d get the syringe into his mouth, pop it in and then blow on his face as that’s supposedly meant to make them swallow. It worked some of the time! Big hugs and something nice afterwards

Mix into liquid choc and pour over ice cream.

If he's actually vomiting it up rather than spitting it out every time it may be worth going back to the doctor as he could be allergic to them.

Thanks everyone. I called 111 and we ended up in A&E on a ward. They have given us amoxicillin that he has to be pinned down for but isn't vomiting them back up just a bit of spitting. He seems to be improving already. X
