For the last year or so my DS 4 has been waking regularly crying with leg pain. He will have a warm bath or calpol or leg rubs. Just before Xmas I started noting it down on my phone and it is always on the left leg can be thigh or calf. So since I've been noting it down it's happened four times since the 14th December.

I wasn't initially concerned and just put it down to growing pains but the fact it's always on the same leg. Surely growing pains would be both legs even if they alternate?

Anyone experienced this? Thanks

My DS who is now 7 complained for months of intermitent shin pain. Just now and again and always the same leg in the same area! I put it down to growing pain for a while then thought to see the GP.. she said growing pains usually present in both legs. She sent him for an xray as she then though maybe it's the tissue around that area causing the pain. But xray seemed fine. He hasn't mentioned any pain in a while since just before Christmas now. He hasn't had any injury to the area either so we're unsure as to what it was/is.
If you're concerned then no harm in speaking to a GP. Better to be safe than sorry! Xx

It's worth a visit to the GP just in case it's something else.

DD has had pains like this in her legs on and off since turning 4 as it happens. It's waining now but she will still occasionally get it badly in the middle of the night. She's nearly 6.

After a few episodes and her sleep being too disrupted I did take her to the GP just for reassurance and had it explained that the bones in her legs/heels were growing and she was getting the pains in the interim period while her muscles, tendons etc. caught up with the growth.

My son had this really badly. We actually gave calpol every night to prevent it for 3 years or else he would wake crying in pain at about 11pm and take ages before we could control the pain.
He was referred to the orthopaedic Drs at the hospital who excluded a serious cause although were reluctant to use the term growing pains. He has mostly grown out of it now (10) but still gets it occasionally maybe every 2-3 months
